Wrapping up the evening with this ...

Led Zep
In Through The Out Door

Deluxe Edition 2015

In Thru Out Door.jpg Led Zep Door deluxe.jpg

Not a huge fan of this album but to my ears ... Jimmy fixed it.
Better bottom end now; not so ear-ripping top end edgy.
In a word: Fuller
It's still not perfect by any stretch ... but fixed enough.

The stand out tracks for me are on the companion disc.

The slow fade up ambient sh!t at the beginning of 'In The Evening' is a bit more drawn out and builds nicely.
I really like the overall presentation of this rough mix too. Better than the original. Maybe because it was so overplayed.

'Carouselambra' - called 'The Epic' in it's alternate form - sounds better than the original to me as well. Better transitions,
like - not so abrupt at the obvious tempo changes, and WAY better flow & EQ. Like the alternate version of 'Stairway to Heaven',
I can now listen to this song all the way through with total enjoyment. It sounds more raw and like Led Zep should sound - even with the prog synth action.

Yes, Johnny was the bad ass gnarly guitar slingin blues mofo though. Not only did he resurrect Muddy Waters career, he recorded several scorching albums of his own. Got a good stash of his work myself, but could definitely use a few more.

Winter Of 88 and Let Me In are both phenomenal albums. His older stuff is great too, Saints and Sinners, Still Alive And Well, among others are all good listens. Rick Derringer played with him a lot, think Johnny might have a Rock N Roll Hoochie Koo version on one of his albums. Specifically Derringer is on Captured Live!.
