Always learning!
I agree he took way to much artistic licensing in his interpretation (but I liked it). When you look at it that way I can see your distain. That was what the Holst family was bitching about.

Please try "Snowflakes Are Dancing", you may look at his works differently. "Firebird" is not regarded as one of his best works but I still like to listen.

I seriously will be on the lookout for that recording of "The Planets" you have. You've made it sound like a must listen for me and I'm not big into classical!

"Snowflakes" is on my list- I think Debussy may be more open to interpretation than the other pieces. Stravinsky was a bit more avant-garde, very progressive for his time. The Rite of Spring nearly caused riots at its first performance. Hallowed ground- shouldn't be screwed with...

You don't have to be into classical- just be into music!

Looks like X but which one?
Thexx - xx. ℗©2009 The Young Turks. XL LP 450. Unknown record label, "Nilz- The Exchange" in deadwax.
Guitars similar to Simon Raymonde of the Cocteau Twins, Nice counterpoints between Male/Female vocals. Nice bottoms that you can feel in your chest. This is the first vinyl release that I know of that has a bonus track that is unavailable in the .MP3 download. 180g vinyl, unusual die-cut sleeve and heavyweight vinyl outer envelope. Includes a 24x24 poster with lyrics.

Very interesting sound, rapidly becoming a favored spin. This is their debut, as far as I know. Most recent release (AFAIK) is "Coexist." The record store was playing this while I was there- HAD to have it!

On a KANSAS bender...

Kansas- A band I've always liked but never bought any of their records. I came across three of these at the (local) record store:

Kirshner PZ 33385. ©1975. Song For America. Vinyl: Excellent condition, quiet where it should be. No significant information in deadwax.

Kirshner PZ 33806. ©1975. Masque. Again, vinyl in outrageously good condition. Cover stamped "DEMONSTRATION- Not For Sale." DNP/WSS in deadwax, 1A in both sides of deadwax. Sonically wonderful!

Kirshner FZ 36008. ©1979. Monolith. 1A/1A in deadwax, vinyl in nearly pristine condition.

BLACK SABBATH appreciation day this afternoon.

Listened to their debut, 4, Paranoid and Master of Reality while driving across the Napa Valley.

Their debut album kicks ass ! :happy2:

That cover does have me curious. Right now playing...

Sam Cooke : Night Beat
I often tend to look for older or original pressings, but this reissue on Music On Vinyl sounds fantastic. Highly recommended for both sound quality and music.

Steve Vai - Sex And Religion, CD.

Found this cool 3 cd set for 10 dollars at HMV, contains S&R, Passion, and Alien Love EP. Cool find for the price.

Need a copy of this myself and will keep my eyes open for a MOV pressing of it.

A friend of mine has been telling me that the MOV pressings are really good, but this is the first one I've tried. I can't compare it to some of the fancier/pricier pressings of Night Beat that have come out on higher end audiophile labels and such like the 45 RPM version and all that. I wouldn't doubt some of those may be even better. But, on my rig this version sounds really nice to me. Now I'm curious about some of the other stuff MOV has put out.
