Just getting my feet wet with phase linear and so far love what I've been reading and finding. I hope to have a system set up shortly here in one of my listings spaces, I'll post some pics when things get going. Thanks for letting me join this community. I also will bring my own flair to some phase linear units. The 400 to start with. I have a little hobby of trying to make things look new again. Thanks Tony

From one Tony to another,

Welcome to PHX !

Welcome to the party Tony.

You will find plenty of people here who like vintage gear.

Enjoy your stay.

Welcome Tony. I was reading a thread over at AK about Phase Linear faceplates and read that you were going to give Phoenix a spin - cool.

Here's a Nav welcome babe for you - I hope you don't mind spurs. :shaking:

Yep I'm giving the 400 a look that I like so much. Did this with a few Marantz and working on a few more. Here's a peek.

Those are real nice looking. Good job.

Will those be going out for etching? That black foreground will really make the etched areas jump out at you. Have you figured out the font you'll be using?

(Jumping in regarding the font: The closest I've seen to the Phase Linear script is a font named "Commercial Script". The "r" isn't exactly the same, though- but it might put you on track. The rest is just standard Helvetica.)

Yes- I like the darker face, too, but I still say there should be some little badge or press-on "White Oak Audio" logo for the modified amps, maybe a hydraulic pressed aluminum plate about 1/2" x 1 1/2".

I just ordered the backplane kit- only the transformer and case will be original when I'm finished.

These are black anodized that have been brushed and as of right now they are off to be laser etched. The company that does my artwork hand draws when it comes to these older fonts like this.
What is "White Oak Audio" is that a company that does aftermarket reproductions of this amp ? Thanks

Likey so???

White Oak Audio has designed and manufactured replacement light and meter boards for the 400's and 700's. New and improved driver boards, cap kits, and something called backplane boards that replace the sockets on the backwall. These backplane boards are configurable for quasi/ full comp in the 400's and full comp in the 700's. The driver boards have undergone constant revision and improvement and are now in their 4th iteration. They barely resemble the old original PL 14 boards. We call these new amps that have been White Oaked a WOPL for a White Oaked Phase Linear. Peruse a few of the WOPL build threads....

Joe has also been busy building replacement chassis for the 700's and will soon release
a new build 400 chassis....

Great information thanks so much. Recently I just discovered their LED boards. Anything and everything when it comes to information is great to have especially when starting a new project like this. Thanks again everyone for the help.

That's why we are here. Joe, the owner of White Oak Audio posts here as "Gepetto"..,,.,.

Hello and welcome Tony. Have some fun here, just don't take any snarky comments personally. All is meant in good hearted fun.

I usually jump into an intro quickly but still recovering from Sat nite. Didn't even turn my rig or computer on yesterday. Don't feel like hitting the office today but hi ho hi ho it's off to work I go...

...and will soon release a new build 400 chassis....

(Mark stops breathing for a second, then picks jaw up from floor...)

BTW: A power switch would be greatly appreciated on these!
