Nope, not audio, but I'm selling this and mostly wanted to share the photos. It's going on eBay today, and I'm asking $1000 to start. If one of you just has to have it, let me know.

That's an awesome looking piece.
Love the colors!
What's the story behind that little guy ?

This Guardian was given to my wife's father, who was involved in the occupation of Japan, and he helped to modernize a factory there. The family who owned the factory gifted the Guardian to him. A close look tells me that it is very old and was probably in the family for generations. What the Guardian does (and I wish I knew its Japanese name) is to protect the house from bad demons. The parasol is used to protect the house, and if that is not enough, he whacks them with the hammer and stuffs them in his sack.

OK, since my first post, we've decided to keep it for now.

Stuwee,

Early native American pieces shrouded in mysticism kinda creep me out unless I know the real story behind them. Most pieces are sold not knowing the history - I don't want to bring in bad JUJU even though they interest me. Would love to see the pics and story.

I'm looking forward to a road trip through the Badlands this summer to reconnect with the past.

There is a story, as told to me by the 3rd keeper..."It was made by a woman for her lover, he was killed before she could give it to him, she kept it for many years and gave it to a young man and he kept it till he was old and gave it to another young man. That man grew old and gave it to Roger (a friend of my father). He always wore it and I loved it so very much, it spoke to me you might say...one day he was in his 70's and I was 17 he said "Craig, you shall be the 4th keeper" and handed it to me.

Then how cool that I moved to it's birthplace!?!? I wear it 90% of the time and often get comments on it (you really have to see it to understand, the pic posted does not do it justice). Many Navaho have admired it at work, I always take it off and let them hold it say "maybe one of your ancestors made it" and add "Thank you for re-charging it" :happy2:

"Stuff" is always better if there is a story attached, but the story needs to be passed along with the object, or it's just stuff...

No need to be sorry - you breathed life into the thread.
