Sgt Peppers - Mono Remaster 2014 - The Beatles

Much better pressing than The White Album but I'm still not
too terribly impressed with the overall sonics. Surface noise
is at a minimum but beyond the mystique of the highly varied
presentation from the stereo mix - fun but not outstanding.

I've dabbled now. Curious appetite satisfied.
But not interested in acquiring any more of these mono releases
on vinyl as I have the CD box set and I consider these LPs mediocre at best.

Thanks for the honesty! I like my stereo re-release of SPLHCB to much to experiment, it's the version I've heard since the first time I heard it, and I'm a stereo bigot. Whether the stereo mixes were a studio afterthought or not, they're the only versions I've ever heard- and I like them! I just hope they don't bastardize Abbey Road into mono- it was the first actual stereo release to begin with.

Reversing an old phrase: "Mono is just a phase, people will come to their senses and get over it..."

I call em like I see em. Mono was intended for delivery systems nowhere near what came to be in the seventies, much less what we've gained since.
So with that in mind, meh. I enjoy the mono CD's because they good all considered - and they were treated differently than the LPs when remastered.
And I value the differences in mono mixes and the focused layering of the sound as an experience but hardly as a primary listening choice.

SPLHCB in stereo on MoFi vinyl is a treat, if you ever get the chance.
Especially the UHQR edition.

Gotta remember some of them are as old as we are Mark...
That's what I thought. I mean, 31 years is a long time (for my National NV-850), even if the component is not being used all that time. Caps degrade over time regardless, correct?

Electrolytics have a water based chemical composition, and the electrolyte just evaporates over time...

Agreed, I was happy to provide Lee with some Barber albums that he had not discovered, great artist!

And a huge shout out to you derek for that!! Love your Thorens 160 Super, I have the same SME 3009 II Improved arm on my TD125 MK II table, it's just a lovely arm, soundwise and looks!!
Thanks bud, it needs a dust but of course that is because it gets used so much. Done around 155 hours on the cartridge, sounds sweet. The TD125 is a brilliant table, a unit to keep for life as is the 160 super.
