Thanks for the honesty! I like my stereo re-release of SPLHCB to much to experiment, it's the version I've heard since the first time I heard it, and I'm a stereo bigot. Whether the stereo mixes were a studio afterthought or not, they're the only versions I've ever heard- and I like them! I just hope they don't bastardize Abbey Road into mono- it was the first actual stereo release to begin with.
Reversing an old phrase: "Mono is just a phase, people will come to their senses and get over it..."
I call em like I see em. Mono was intended for delivery systems nowhere near what came to be in the seventies, much less what we've gained since.
So with that in mind, meh. I enjoy the mono CD's because they good all considered - and they were treated differently than the LPs when remastered.
And I value the differences in mono mixes and the focused layering of the sound as an experience but hardly as a primary listening choice.
SPLHCB in stereo on MoFi vinyl is a treat, if you ever get the chance.
Especially the UHQR edition.
