I'm always interested in the style of head block/mechanisms within Cassette Decks. Have gathered up pictures of most of my decks. It would be really cool to see others pics of their head/roller configurations. I get the best result by shining a torch inside the head well of the deck at the same time have the camera snap the shot very close with the flash off, taking care to focus first.

Any other takers on this one? The different designs I find very interesting.

Yep I sold the deck. I have a few decks I am going to re-belt in the next week or two. I will shoot some images of those when I am working on them.

I am afraid to try anymore of the decks as two of the five I exercised a few weeks back needed belts.

Might as well include some other types of tape mechanisms, am open to all:

Sanyo VTC-M40 Beta Hi-Fi Player/Recorder (1984)

This is how it was when first received, in need of some TLC and a belt kit, very good condition heads, hard to find with working Hi-Fi heads, replacements not available:

Interesting belt driven dual idler setup, very reliable when the tires are good:

Pics I posted recently of tape loaded:

Here are mech pics of a Mono Sanyo "Betacord" which will serve as a parts machine for the Hi-Fi Model if need be:

PC DAT Backup drive, and yes, very similar to an Audio DAT recorder. Very similar tape path and reading method to a VHS. I like to call them Mini VHS machines, but of course they serve different purposes:

Anymore cassette or video mech pics out there? Would be great to see more. Preferably decks that members own.

my own 1988 PIONEER CT-S800, identical to the U.S. ELITE CT-91 and EURO CT-939,
and surely the JPN model as well (sorry forget the model number)

(in fact, being PIONEER's "REFERENCE MASTER MECHANISM" it is probably identical/near identical
to the mechanism installed in every one of PIONEER's TOTL single well decks from 1985/1995 or so)

I like this thread. Here are two pics of the heads of the Luxman K-12. In one picture, you can see the top edge of the thick, glass cassette well cover. Both pictures show how the head block for this cassette deck was made like those for reel to reel machine, a nice thick piece of solid metal. No fooling around with the design of this machine.

Great to see more contributions, that lux reminds me of my Denon, it has a plate behind the tape door as well. Maybe they did this to stop dust falling on the tape path when the door is opened. Makes it a little annoying to clean though.

I'm still looking for where I put my Canon.
