That's one I've never seen ...
Jake E Lee on guitar, great concert vid from the 80's when ozzy was fat and wore lots of make-up. If you thought Zakk was a beast check out Jake on that. I think Zakk might have taken a couple of Jake's chop's and made them his own, in his own sort of way.

incredible jaw dropping sonics on this record - it sounds like a direct to disk recording but it isn't.

Just going through my Led Zeppelin 1, 2, and 3, 180 gram (2014) vinyl re-issues. Listening at optimal volume, sitting back in chair, eyes closed. The WOPL has been powered on for 2 weeks straight. The detail, sonics, and imaging are jaw dropping, and is the best I have heard Led Zep 1 so far, am having a brief break and going onto number 2. Its a very pleasant and unique experience, honestly I feel like it doesn't get better than this without more major audio upgrades, and it is damn good as it is now, nothing short of outstanding.

I have a few other 180 gram records and recent pressings to test which are all in pristine condition, this is going to be very fun. Am used to multitasking while listening but its much better to isolate the brain, close your eyes and take everything in. I kind of need to be doing something all the time but am managing to switch off and just concentrate on the sound itself. It really throws it at you, there is a lot there to take in.

I bought III- but so far have only played the companion disc.

Tell us what you think of II- It was at the store at the same time I bought III but I didn't want to spend the money on the 3 LP set. Some guy on YouTube said that Jimmy Page royally screwed up "Whole Lotta Love", doesn't have the original "movement" and rotating sounds of the original mix.

("Physical Graffiti" is out now, isn't it? "In My Time of Dying": The ULTIMATE Zeppelin track!)

Everyone Hears different. I was satisfied with all of them (1/2/3), I did not pay too much attention to whole lotta love, it sounds fine to me. However during this listening session I am paying more attention than ever before. I also have copies of earlier pressings and enjoy them too. Not too picky and between the two pressings its a win win situation for me personally. I won't hesitate to buy IV and Houses of the Holy, I'm fairly sure they would have been remastered well too.

Listening results for Led Zeppelin 1/2/3 - 180 Gram 2014 Vinyl remasters

I give them all a big thumbs up, except for 1 track and that's "bron y aur stomp" off the "3" album, it lacks treble in the percussion section. The original pressing sounds much clearer on that one track. No big deal to me.

As for Whole Lotta Love, as I sat there listening with my eyes closed, even though I was only listening through 2 speakers, it gave the impression that the guitar and other sounds were spinning around me, it is done well and is pleasant to my ears. Of course that's just a personal opinion.

We can always pick at remasters and say there should be more or less of "this and that" but if the overall result pleases your ears that's all that matters. If not, listen to the original pressings, or find a remaster you do like on your format of choice. The combination of settings during remastering is almost infinite, and yes I have heard some bad examples of remasters, but these 3 Zep pressings surely aren't bad to my ears, they sound outstanding.

I did not buy the deluxe versions as I didn't think the extra $35 cost justified the content value of the companion audio provided. At $40-45 each for the single 180 gram vinyl version sounds expensive, but I feel I have got my money's worth here as the pressings are brilliant and made in germany. The new amp has revealed much more with these vinyl pressings as well. They have probably been played around 5 times each now and are still very close to mint condition.

I thought the sound quality of Physical Graffiti was crap, hardly any bass, full of mid range and distortion, 'The Rover' sounded like it was taken off vinyl being played by a cheap cartridge/turntable. Will be interesting to see how the latest remaster comes out.

Maybe your copy was the first one off the press on Monday morning (even though I agree what you say about "The Rover"). "Custard Pie", "In My Time Of Dying", and "Kashmir" are all-time favorites of mine. Pretty much all of the "Houses" and "Presence" albums are favorites, but I can't stomach one more listening of "Stairway To Heaven"- Played waaaay to mukin' futch! That, and Lynrd Skynrd's "Free Bird". Just too damned sick of hearing it...

Hmmm... It's actually the extra content that adds appeal to me. But... Yeah... a bit pricey, I may opt for the two-disc set over the three disc set. I wonder how many discs "Graffiti" will occupy.

Zeppelin- The band that can play the same song a hundred different ways and have it last for the same duration...

I find the surprise of what is included in the extras appealing also.
For instance, LZ IV is not my favorite album although it looms large to most folks as a monumental LZ offering,

and what haven't we all said about Stairway to Heaven over the years? ;-)

But much to my surprise, the alternate version of Stairway on the deluxe edition blows away the original IMHO. I don't hate
the original, overplayed version but I usually skip it most times it comes up - but I find the alternate version almost spellbinding.
No, forget that, it IS spellbinding!
