Swamping on a winch truck is the same thing, except instead of hooking trees to a skidder, you were hooking up pieces of the drilling rig to a truck. Those two jobs required about the same amount of enthusiasm.....didn't take long to learn the drivers seat is where it was at...

Trail Or..,...north of Medford....
The reason I asked is because my brother did that job on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island. He always said it was tougher on the coast.
I think he left the day a faller tried to catch a tree. The tree won. He moved into the Interior and did it for a few years until the industry took a nosedive. It's definitely hard work.

I use a Stihl Farmboss here at the house. Husqvarna makes very good saws. Most loggers I knew use them or Stihl's. I did a stint with International Paper Company in upstate NY in the 80s. Hardwork yes, dangerous yes but it paid ok and if you used your head and were aware of what was going around you, accidents were far less likely to happen. Most of what was cut back then went to the pulp mills, mostly pine. I ran a skidder and bulldozer for 2 summer/falls. There was none of the helicopter lifting shit that they do now, it was heavy machinery and chains. Mules were used in some spots where the heavy machinery would sink

Nando, after reviewing this thread one more time, the feller in the first pic of the first post could double as Kevin's twin.......REALLY close resemblance....

Everyone in the world has a twin, Lee. What's your twin up to, Lee?
