Glad to see you here Michele! Welcome to Phoenix! I believe you are our first official female member so Nav is going to have to think a way around his usual greeting

So my buddy Ron aka Northwinds convinced me to come here and learn more about WOPLs. I had been thinking I'd get a McIntosh 2105 or such but he has been preaching the WOPL gospel. I'm here to learn more! So be kind, I can be a sensitive girl sometimes...or not!

Pick the component then pick the forum. We're not really all that strict, you can talk pretty much about anything anywhere...

Heck , you can do it in this one..

Welcome. Kick back and have a few laughs with us. Ron has already alerted us of your possble joining, not that it will change anything. You'll probably add a little class to this bunch.

I wait anxiously for Nav's welcome to you - this should be good!

Ye Red Knight doth bid my lady welcome! Perchance thy thinking is that all here are amp snobbish, but indeed, not all. Thy servant is a humble owner of an Aiwa device in his main system.

OK, the first question is, when I am searching for a PL donor unit to do a WO mod how much functionality does the PL have to have? Working meters, yes. But then are the output transistors being removed? What else can be missing?

All we need now are meter, transformer and heatsink...

Welcome to the Phoenix Forum..... Glad to see you are asking questions already, that is a good sign. Ha, we have been known to scare some of the not-so-brave away before all the hello's are even finished! :) There are a bunch of really great folks here as you will come to find out.

Oh I have lots of questions. I posted these in WOPL Building forum, not sure where was best-

Here's my next question: when I tell people I'm looking for a PL to mod of course they all start lobbying me away from the idea. These are the other amps that have been recommended to me that they say will be better than a WOPL and less money. Could I get comments on these amps, especially in comparison to a WOPL please? Meaning why is a WOPL better than any of these? Thanks.

Welcome to our forum, Michele. It was good of Ron to convince you into checking us out. With a username like yours, I suspect you play in a band? Ron knows a lot of musicians.

Nando.
