WOPL build time! I have an early series 700 that recently lost the left channel when my preamp spazzed out, might as well upgrade it if I'm gonna be in there repairing it.I've looked at the WO site and most of the upgrades center around the latter series amps. Are they applicable to the early ones also? I'd like to do as much as I can to it,what kits are available? I'd like to do the led upgrade also,if applicable to the early ones. The protection upgrade too.....and of course to improve the power and related specs. Some advice please, from those of you that have done this. What part numbers/kits do I need to order? I'd like to do the complete package all at once,if I can.I'm a pretty fair hand at rebuilding this equipment, tho I am a little out of practice at it.Thanks much,
Lee

Lee, the SER 1's have a different heatsink bolt pattern than the "B"'s or Ser II's. So the backplane boards will not fit your Ser 1.

However, if ya got a couple weeks or so to spare you can buy a new White Oak B chassis and change over your faceplate and transformer and Voila'....everything will fit then.

A Rev "D" driver board, a set of Rev A backplane boards, an LED light board, some new PS caps, a Don Imlay(wattsabundant) DC protect board , new 50 amp BR asnd you're good to go....

The Ser 1 heatsinks will NOT work with the new chassis, just the "B" and Ser II heatsinks...

Sooooo.......it looks like my most viable option is to remove the power cord and replace everything upstream with a series 2 chassis :) Northwinds,do you have a link to Jers write up on his series 1 build, please? I'd like to look thru it.Thanks.Lee,I can wait for those parts you mentioned. These things never seem to get done overnight,do they? Keep me posted please.Another option would be to repair the PL700 as is and look for a series 2 to modify....or buy one already done.If anyone has any leftover OEM parts that might fit a series 1 PL700 I might be interested in purchasing them.Right now I know I need the output transistors, left channel, all but 1 had failed in some form or another.I haven't dived into the support boards to see what's damaged there. Thanks again everyone.

Whatever you do you don't want factory XPL-909's as outputs, use MJ21196's....

Quick question Joe, I have at least 50 lbs of new copper plumbing elbows, know anybody that can turn them into 4 fin heatsinks?
I do not Ron. The copper they use for plumbing is generally the not grade for machining. C145 is tellurium copper and is generally used where copper machining is involved.
