The paralyzed man was the victim of a knife attack four years ago. The procedure did not use the expected stem cells that are often credited with amazing repairs (such as current experiments to restore the vision of persons blinded by some forms of degenerative eye disease). some of the man's NASAL CAVITY cells were transplanted to his spinal cord, apparently the only known way to accomplish this at present.
