Klipsch K- horns/ La Scala and room size

Would La Scalas or Belles work in a smaller space better than the K's?

The Belles, or LaScala's....yes....the K's require a little room, otherwise soundstage suffers...

There are tons of threads about La Scalas over at the Klipsch forums. From what I have read, SOME rooms do like the La Scalas in the rear facing position (with the tops facing forward, of course).....but, like the KHorns, I think placement is room dependant. Not just the dimensions, but also the construction, the flooring, furniture, listening position....and other things.

Kevin and I have been working on my LS cabinets a little, and I plan to start a thread on the rebuild probably this weekend or early next week. I have decided to go with the "doghouse mod" wherein I will build new enclosures for the mid and tweeter drivers, and will vent the additional space I will enclose, making them have a larger internal volume while porting them at the same time. From everything I have read, the LS were designed with too little volume, thereby limiting the lower extension to the low 50's. This mod supposedly changes that, providing bass into the 30's...WE WILL SEE....

I haven't heard Kevin's K's in a long while. With the recent family loss, there hasn't been much music playing lately. He still wants to take them upstairs to a new room to see if those physical attributes make them behave differently. They do sound awesome...but he says not like Lee's sounded..so it is either the room or the drivers haven't broken in yet. We built a subwoofer for his Brother-in-Law a few years ago and were disappointed in its' sound. About a month later he called us to the house, and damn if it hadn't come to life and was shaking the fricking house. So, I don't know.....I think they will come into their own at some point, and scare the shit out of you..

Weird, about 2 hours on these Crites and they match the old one...after I blow one up that is...

Douglas: I like your approach to getting background info from members in the know before committing to buying a pair of Klipsch speakers. I would be doing the same.

Although I didn't audition these speakers as they sold immediately the day they were put on display, I can imagine they are something I would have liked. These were recently customized at Innovative Audio, and there will be future custom speakers to be made available of the same design. They began as Altec Voice Of The Theatre A-5s and have gone through a make-over.

Nando.

Love to be able to audition every speaker I have on my wish list, Nando as I would be bummed to get a pair that didn't perform well in my listening area. K- horns are, unfortunately, off my list until I have a more appropriate space for them.

Maybe it is Kevin's room....IDK, but his subwoofer sure rocks the house when in use. It must be the room, or the location of the speakers in the room then. He will find out when he moves them..

Gotta be something, cause there's no lack of bass here, I'm still amazed every time I turn mine on...

Oh yeah.....Elite-ist.....those sure look like A-7's to me. I have those too....Do yours have the 515 woofer or the 416 ?? Oh, what tweets, and tell me about your crossovers...

Yeah pretty confusing sometimes. i also have a pair of A7's and a pair of A8's.
Those look to be A7's with the 511 horn.

Here is a pic of the three.

Those modified VOTTs aren't mine. I believe the ones pictured sold for $4,400.

Nando.
