Got this off a BIN on ebay - could not resist the asking price for the condition, and damn if I don't miss that Rev B backplane 400 WOPL sound for a daily driver. Shouldn't take but a few days, then onto your amp Gary/62Vaux!

She purdy, just still in the box hehe

I went on a lil spending spree with this 400 included. One "buy" that didn't quite go as planned was this guy here..

http://www.ebay.com/itm/221509156597?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Before buying, I googled images for it to see if it had a preamp out (heck.. I'm always looking for pre's with different sound and whatnot). I THOUGHT it had one, but the image of the backside I was looking at turned out to be a different model...

BUT.. a quick eyeball on the schematic... and now it DOES have a preamp output for the front L/R (I could do the same with the other channels, but anyway.... ). After THAT lil mod, it worked... pretty good... but the pre on it really doesn't cut it as far as S/N ratio. With the tone controls flat it's not TOO bad, but turn em just a notch and whooa.. I can hear the black mamba hissin from my D9's tweeters just a little too much.

.Jer, Debbie bought that complete system new w/ the sub and 4 satellite speakers, we still use it for the livingroom TV. Never had a problem with it. EDIT: never tried it for music playback but it does not have much power anyway. I think they claim 80wpc x 5 but I don't see it

Hehe.. that's why it's now a "preamp" of sorts... The schematic told me that basically there was a junction point between the preamp and amp sections, so I disconnected the 5.1 channel input RCA's on the back, then ran a coax from 2 of them to the junction point. It MAY be that the amp section is still connected as to why it didn't turn out quite right.

The sound itself is pretty darn clear, but yeah.. a little bit hissy for me. I may disconnect the amp section altogether and replace the preamp buffers with one of those super duper op amp IC's, but that's for another day.. :thumbleft:
