Well, after more than a year I finally found this TEAC Z 6000 like new in the original carton. It needed some service of course, but now she's finally home and singing. This is by far the most difficult Z series machine to find. Z 5000 (shown on this picture) is very common and the Z 7000, even though it's expensive, you see a couple showing up from time to time around. I also received and installed my new Phase Linear 700 B II. Pictures of the 6000 to follow.

You might just consider giving that new power amp more room to breathe. Awesome cassette deck, BTW.

It has an small fan in the back. I soon realized no matter how low the volume is, this amp gets hot as hell! It really looks like new! By the way: it has a toggle switch on the back. What's that for?

Thanks!

I'm running an 18" fan in front of the bedroom system for the moment until I get things finally worked out in there. My SA-8800 likes that.

Your amp should not get hot as hell...

Wow, that's quite a remarkable line-up of Teac Z series cassette decks, Carlos. And of course, going with the vintage theme you can't go wrong with Phase Linear gear.

I believe that this series were the epitome of cassette deck development for Teac in the cassette's heyday. At least we can easily qualify the Z 7000 as one of the best cassette decks ever made. It's been said that they never got the ROI for the series and the Z series were never "big sellers" due to the price tag. The 7000 was $1,800 in 1983 and in that range the competition was fierce but the people that could afford it, scarce. My Naks look like a mosquitoe next to it but the sound of the Naks still more "complete" I may say, perhaps because of their unique head design. A Teac 7000 with a Nak head could be a superb machine without any doubt, but that's just a dream now.

Anyway, you know that it took me over a year to find a nice condition 6000...very impressive machine. No doubt about it, but the 7000 remains the "queen"!

The famous Pioneer/Phase Linear...but no please! No more decks for me. It was my dream to complete the Z series and to try a PL 700 II. No more toys for me my young friend!

Carlos
That's what we all say, and then some enabler comes along ... :evil3: :laughing1:

FWIW I am about to that point too, LOL. Just one more minor "want", and that'll be converting/upgrading my old PL 700 series I to full WO and full complementary.

Then I'm done...
