I love the sound of WOPL in the morning

So a pair of Infinity RS3b's popped up on craigslist locally. Was gonna go check them out tomorrow. The lister says they are in "excellent" shape and recently refoamed. Based on my research they are very power hungry and are 4 ohm. Was wondering if the new WOPL'd 400 would be ok driving them daily.

Might be looking to have these replace the KLH Model 5 I currently have in the living room. Have really enjoyed those speakers but these seem like a really nice step up for a decent price

With forced air cooling, not a problem....but a 700 would be better, wouldn't run outta gas...

Talk to Fred Richmond, he is running Infinity Kappas with his converted PL400s. He disabled the SOA protection because they go down below 2 ohms. Otherwise he seems to be alright.

Not sure I'm ready to start modifying the PL do quick. Want to be able to enjoy it for a while. I do have a citation 16 that I recently overhauled thatho there say can handle the low impedance. Might give it a go since the speakers seem like a good deal. Haven't seen them or heard them yet...

I'm very curious about any tech item

Hi all,
I have a direct experience on Infinity RS3b powered by PL 400 and in 25 years I have never seen problems ,
except the " bump " at power up .
Problems with low impedadance are related to Kappa series .
To avoid the bump I have used two 510 Ohm 5W resistors connected in parallel to the input of the speakers ,
according PL service manual .
The sound is fantastic : Emit tweeters are magic .
To avoid mismatch with model and series the RS3b has two woofers , one dome mid and one Emit .
Correct?
Ciao
Marco

Hi Gepetto ,
I'm sure there's no bump with White Oak board ,
but I fixed the problem in this way many years ago .

Ciao
Marco

Hi Laatsch and all,
this is a particular case of matching : PL 400 with Infinity RSii b .
For instance ,with my father's former speakers ( Allison One ) there was no thump at turning on .
Ciao
Marco
P.S: for me it's hard to find the right english terms to avoid misunderstandings or
sentences that could be offensive .
Thank you in advance for your comprehension .

Marco, rarely if ever will offensive be taken here. We all realize that translation programs are not perfect and cultural references can be confusing. If in.doubt Marco believe we are being humorous not spiteful.

For a short while before I got my Vega's, I ran a pair of Infinity Quantum 5's which are about as power hungry as you can imagine with the Watkin's 12" DVC woofers. This was back when I first got Blackie and she did need a fan but she would drive them to the limits and did it everyday. The Quantum 5's are known for eating amplifiers but it was Blackie that was popping the Q5's fuses :evil4:. Not bad for a Quasi 400 (which is now FC) and a speaker rated at close to 500w

I still have the cabs w/ crossovers and screens if someone wants them. I sold the Watkins', mids, and EMIT's already
