Your thoughts and opinions on these speakers. Decent match with a WOPL? Thanks in advance for the input.

My bad Nick, forgot what they were. Can you audition those ESS' ?
I think so, but they need the passive radiators replaced/ repaired. I have seen the kits for reasonable prices($35- 40) and may be worth doing for the audition. You think they would make the sweet music with da WOPL?

Heard a pair 25 years ago. They still manufacture the Heil Air Motion Transformer tweeter and have replacement diaphrams for the old ones. IIRC they weren't a difficult load....

Seems like replacement parts are not impossible to find and I love the the looks of them. Been considering some used Decware ERR's, but I can get the ESS locally and at a much lower price. Also heard that there may be a mod that allows for the use of two 12" woofers instead of the one with the passive radiator.

I bought a pair of the AMT 1As a few months ago. I never thought I would replace my Dahlquist DQ-10s, then I heard the AMTs - I sold the DQ-10s. They are great with my WOPL 400.

I do have one criticism of the AMTs, they sound great at low and medium volume, but at higher volume the heils overwhelm the mids and bass.

Thanks for the head's up, Jimmy. I am hoping for a WOPL 400(or two) and hoped they would make a good pairing if both were in my system. Sold your Dahlquist's? I have not heard a pair yet, but I know they are very well received.

Most of my listening is done at lower levels, but that is good to know. Do you think speaker placement/ room treatments could help with that issue? Lack of bass not an issue with these?

D and I can't wait to come and have a listen. Maybe instead of shipping my WOPL ;) to me, we will come and pick her up and get our hair "done" by your rig.

The DQ-10s are a wonderful speaker; they are open, airy, and detailed. But, they lack bass, and they sound best at high volume. I wanted something that sounded better to me at lower volume.

I'm not dissing the Dahlquists at all. I will probably always be a fan of the brand, but the AMTs do most things better.

How much are the AMTs you are looking at? I paid $200 for mine, then spent another $70 on capacitors.

Nobody is going to confuse the AMTs with Lee's horns, but they do have a reasonable amount of bass. I found that they did better in the corners of the room.

I think I can get them for under $300 with new passive radiators. Guess I should factor in caps for this one as well- I am pretty sure they have not been replaced. Oh yeah, maybe some new speaker grill cloth.
