If all things can be worked out, May 21st will be the pickup day. Joe and Ron will be at the pickup and Ron will store them.

The object to this purchase is to get a WOPL'd 700B to anyone who wants one.
We may not wind up with 25 complete with meters and handles but I do know we will wind up with 27 -700 transformers. Joe is finishing up with a design and prototyping new-build chassis. Skratch is going to make a run of 25 new faceplates, some of these amps will not have meters or the PL700 lit logo in the middle, just depends on how many are still good and can be transferred.

The second objective, and this is open for discusion, is the start of a Phoenix bank account that will fund group purchases and be a source for loans by members who for whatever reason can't fund a purchase on their own at the time some of their dream equipment is available. For legal reasons we can not charge interest, but a payment plan will be in place. I realize this could be a can of worms, but if done right can be a valuable resource for members.
My initial thoughts are to set up a "loan committee" to approve the loans based on criteria to be determined. The money pool will be funded by profits from the sale of these 27 amps. One is already goin to be given to Ron, complete with upgrades for retreiving and storing of these amps. So, we are down to 26 transformers and a 400 or two. After i get my out of pocket money back, the money generated over the cost of parts and nominal labor provided by me, Jer, and whoever else gets involved putting these together wilbe put into the Phoenix account.

What am I missing here fellers to make this work??

Hello Lee,

Glad the deal is nearly done on the 25 700Bs.

Your suggestion is a Phoenix bank is a chivalrous one, but fraught with pitfalls. Nothing can turn friends into enemies faster that issues over money, or the lack thereof. I for one would not sign up for this inevitable headache.

Regards,
Scott

Nothing stopping folks from making a donation to the fund, right? If they feel like they got value from it, they could donate to the fund...without obligation. Maybe a suggested donation.

...So, we are down to 26 transformers and a 400 or two...
I have a 700b and 400 (ready to rebuild) so I shouldn't be first on the list, but I would like to buy a core or possibly trade labor for one to build myself another 700b.

...whoever else gets involved putting these together...
Depending on the timing of things, I might have an interest in this. I work slower than a...IDK what...on my own projects, but do understand deadlines. I've got a bit going on right now, but I see that freeing up, and if it's "paying" work, it'll be easier to get the wife to let me spend more time on it.

Zach, I was hoping folks would step forward. Can't do it all, just me and Jer.

Scott, I'm of the mind that although frought with pitfalls, people involved with this forum as frequent contributors are an honorable bunch and would honor any commitment they made. That being said, what should the ground rules be?? There is going to be a Phoenix fund for group buys, that I think is advantageous to everyone. And in essence that is having faith that those commitments will be honored also, so is it that much of a stretch to go one step further?

You prove my point Kev. There is an atmosphere here that fosters those sentiments, and why not reward and enhance that?

The only feedback I can provide is that it sounds like a cool idea Lee. Only at Phoenix would this even be thought of. WOPL Nation!

This place has already changed my whole musical experience . And all with help from fourm members.so I am in with this idea 100%. Just comes down to how I can contribute . I don't have tons of money but in the near future I will have a little to put towards the cause. I think as long as everybody here is a real stand up person there shouldn't be any problems. It's a awesome idea and can really help all us out.

I'd be more than willing to contribute in the future when I get a job. I think we have an honest and mature community here and could make this work. It would be a good team effort to help others :)

C'mon guys, need some ideas and feedback....
Use the profits as seed money to get transformers wound...and for marketing.

Besides techs to build them, transformers is about all that's left to doing small production, right?

So, yes to group buys, but focus them on getting something bigger up and running. This would be the best kind of "loan" I could see, where the product is developed and the seed money allows larger orders for cost reduction benefiting the entire endeavor.

This could also fund development of other accessories...proper cooling fan assemblies*, wood cases, etc.

How do we get an idea how marketable new units would be, and the legalities/ liabilities of providing such a product?

We got any sales guys here? Lawyers?

*preferably run right off a fan jack like the originals have. Cassette Deck's could be made to do this, obviously with the right compact power supply.

I like the idea of this Lee. I'd be willing to help where I could.

What about a resource for difficult to obtain items that could be bought in quantity and resold at a reasonable price? What about a wire kit by gauge or maybe a Wima cap kit cobbled together from multiple buys?

You have a good start on all this - maybe it can be pushed up a notch.
