Taken from an E-Bay ad, notice the part where it says the hum is intrinsic to the amp!!!
And no way to remove it..... Aw jeez....
The unit had a COMPLETE RESTORATION in August, 2008. It was done by William Green (Circle Stereo), a Texas Phase Linear guru that told me that the specs after the redo are actually slightly BETTER than they were when I purchased the unit. Bill also replaced the 2 preamp leads - see photo. The restoration ran $ 523.02 + shipping to Texas.
The unit functions wonderfully - nice & loud !!! And is in really nice shape. It resides in a doored cabinet whose vented back is against a wall. And I cover the vents on the top if the unit with a small piece of poster board - this helps keep the dust out.
Since the amp's redo, I have played it something like 12 - 15 hours per YEAR (yes, per YEAR). This is why I am selling it...I just don't use it enough.
Yes, I am the original owner. I purchased the unit NEW sometime in the mid to late 1970's. The amp ran me either $ 799.00 or $ 879.00 (depending on date of manufacture).
NOTE: There is a slight hum when the unit is turned on. Please understand,THIS IS INTRINSIC TO THE UNIT ITSELF !!! ALL 700B's have this hum. There is NO way to remove it. However, once you "crank up" the volume, you won't notice the hum anyway !!
Included with the amp will be the ORIGINAL owner's manual and 2 service manuals - one more extensive (37 pages) than the other (20 pages). I will also include the original receipt for the redo. It has Bill's address, phone number, etc. in case there is a problem.
I have the original shipping carton although I do not know if I will use it. The 700B will be packaged VERY WELL (I may even have the "pros" do it) and insured for TWICE the amount paid for it. That way, if there is a problem, it will be covered by insurance.
I realize the listed shipping cost is rather high, but I want to make sure it covers the insurance + the shipping (Michigan to the West Coast is really expensive). If the actual shipping cost is LESS, I will REFUND
