Mystery Deck #1

Here's a teaser pic of a deck I've been waiting for... for a very long time.
Sometimes the planets align, the stars assemble and the dice roll the right way.
The rewarding part is when the selling party is super keen about making sure things are packaged just right and makes every effort to package a component with the utmost care - even providing gobs of photos without even being asked. Dude sent me a total of (9) photos covering the various stages of layering the wrap/packaging.
Quality sellers run few and far between in my experience.

This deck is museum quality through and through,
but ya'll have to wait until I unmask this latest score.

:-o

Some sort of Sony ES deck? :rabbit:
Nope

But I will say this. Next to this deck, which harkens back to my early - glory days of tape - the only other deck I MUST get my hands on is a top-flight JVC.

When I get to revealing a single layer of coverage or so, maybe I'll get you guys to throw some guesses out there - for fun..

We know. :rabbit: Looks like a Pio CT-93 to me. :rabbit:
Nope!

but do I aspire to get either a Pioneer A9 or a 93.
Problem with that is they are highly sought after,
stupid expensive, coveted like the Holy Grail
and probably not in the cards.

You don't seem to be Nak guy so it is a some sort of Teac? Champage colored V9000 deck?

I'll have to wait for some of the wrap to tear. :rabbit:

A CT-95 just sold on ebay for $945.
That's too much for that rig. Ever seen one on the inside?
The build quality wasn't what I would call 'Elite" status... and no comparison to many of its predecessors.

Lots of good 3-head cassette decks out there. I'm betting it's a fairly modern one, relatively speaking, about early 90's. Maybe Dolby S equipped?

Transitioned to ES in 1992 with the 870ES and it became my preoccupation from there on out.
Didn't taste Dolby S until '94. Taste tested on a 909ES, didn't like the compatibility issue after-taste and spit it back out.
Nothing beats a 870/890 platform IMHO but this gem comes damn close...

The Mystery Deck pre-dates my fascination with everything ES.
It taught me about proper leveling, using quality tape stock and opened my eyes to what Dolby C & HX Pro could really do on the more dynamic of sources.
( which means I owned one before :evil4: )

[ changed to B&W and messed with the gamma a bit to keep it extra mysterious...]

John had it right in the beginning as a Sony. TC-K triple series, like a TC-K555?

This thread got me thinking about something we could all contribute to.
Gonna give it some more thought and add a new thread tomorrow.
Hopefully you guys find it cool.

Something along the lines of cassette decks you once had and broke your eye teeth on, Tony? Looking forward to hearing more about your new deck.

Nando.
