Yammie CR-420 ... Worth it?

I have no Yammie gear in my stable, and the local Sally has a CR-420 for $50. Price seems steep for that model, banged up wood case, very dirty. What say ye?

It make a nice start to a spare room or garage system, only 30wpc IIRC.

Does it have pre-outs?

The normal SA operator wasn't there today, it was some heavy from the home office. He didn't look like the wheel-n'-deal type. Maybe tomorrow.

If it works fine, run with it. All your blemishes can be resolved in time.

If you stack stuff with it and put it behind a tinted glass door any SO will have more complaints about speakers, unless they are so cool it's just vicious....

Jim: My local thrift store now charges $25 for receivers and amplifiers, regardless of wattage. I bought a Pioneer SX-680 and Yamaha CR-420 from them about seven, or so, years ago for $15 each. My Yamaha receiver is in great physical condition and it works well. The only repair needed is the dial bulb had burnt out, recently. I would say less than half of what the SA is asking would be more in line... and that's for one which works and looks good.

Have you been to the Goodwill site? Sometimes Sally is crazy on their prices. I would carry it up there with 10.00 and see what they say. Scorp I have no Yamaha gear either. LMBO

The CR 420 was double-whimpy. I would pass for $50. They blew up easily, even with 8 ohm speakers. If you want reliable power in this era, find a CR-450 (double 420 outputs). The 450 was designed for 4 ohm speakers.
