I have always liked the sound of Yamaha. I can't explain it; but it is sort of laid back sound.

I do like their decks. It just seems lately I have had bad luck. I still want a K-2000. How many in here have Yamaha products.

I've never used Yamaha tape decks, so I don't really have much of an opinion on them. But I have used plenty of Yamaha amps, going all the way back to the late 80's.

I've owned the R-9 Receiver, outstanding piece of kit! For a while I used it with the AVC-50 A/V preamp, which was basically an early surround sound processing A/V preamp with built-in rear speaker amplification. I sold that at a time when I was hard up for cash in college.

Now I have a Yamaha M-50 power amp providing the juice in my DJ booth area. I absolutely love it... but soon to be sold in favor of a Sansui integrated that I will likely move into that slot. (separate thread to be posted on that later).

I also have a very clean Yamaha C-45 control amp. Nice and neutral sounding, but I not using it mostly due to space. probably gonna sell as a set with the M-50...

I also have a cool little DT-60 Yamaha audio timer.

Like I said. I do like the sound of the Yamaha amps. It is a different sound. Why the Sansui? My first amp I bought in 78 was a Rotel. I loved that amp. The only receiver I ever had was a Pilot. It was a little thing at maybe 35 wpc. I think the Rotel was 45 wpc; but it got me in trouble in the barracks. I would crank it and leave my door open ao I could hear it in the shower. LOL The head of the barracks turned it down once. I went to the 1st shirt about him touching my stereo. It was daytime so I could play it as loud as I wanted. He never touched it again. He would ask me to turn it down and I would say no. LOL

Why the Sansui?
The Yammy M-50 is in my DJ booth setup, where space is quite limited.

Besides the two Technics 1200's and the two line-level inputs required for my Rane Serato digital to analog interface (allows digital files to be played, but speed controlled by analog turntables), there are also three Naks (two plugged into an EQ) a Hifi VHS, a computer output, and a dual tray CD recorder fighting for attention in that space. I often have to unplug one component to use another... not fun. I could put the C-45 in there for more inputs and control, but then there's the space limitation again.

If I put the Sansui AU-D77X in that spot I basically gain 6 more sets of inputs with no change in space consumption. I will end up with may more alternative ways to distribute recording and output signal versus just using a power amp there.

Maybe then I can hook up my R2R again, and I've got a couple more Naks that I've done idler tire repairs on that not being used right now as well.

There will be some testing and a lot of shuffling first. I will probably take some pics of the whole ordeal and make a fun project thread out of it. Just need to make the time.

Larry, you don't have to beg the stumiester for Yammie love :love4: , he knows.

I don't like there pre's and amps together tho. Btw, I don't care for my SAE's together either...just my opinion. I have the MX-800U bruiser amp and the CX-600U pre, I just don't like them together, my ears might be faulty in my old age :hippy2: :help:

The later Yammie pre's have a very distinct sound but you can play with 'tone' with their brilliant variable loudness control..... :blob7: why others never picked up this device I'll never know, every room needs help, EQ is your friend my friends, kudo's to Yamaha for their insight !!

I'd still love to know how they make an amp sound just so.....natural, down low and up high, low level or high level, detail in spades, no strain when you push it......only my little SAE A202 can match it!

Forgot to add that I love the 'sound' of an amp loaded down, just to the point of the rails sagging I guess, don't know how else to describe it, if the designer knew what they were doing, the 'sweet spot' is where you push it 9/10ths maybe? I need to be committed I guess? :silent:

In my defense, I'd love to hear a pair of Apogee Scnitilla's or Carver Silver Sevens on my Yammie diggin' deep current, Woof!!    :D

I let the magic smoke out of my MX-800 a couple of years back and so she sits, mourning. She was cranking hard at the time too. Maybe someday send her off and see if new smoke can be put back where the old smoke left.

I see a trip to Iowa in her future :D , great powerful beastie! I'm afraid my time with mine is about up when the X-Amp mono's get here. They are 2 totally different presentations between them, lucky me the amps sit out in the open on stands between the ML's so swapping in and out is quick and easy :tongue5:

Jim, do you or avionic have an idea of what caused the magic smoke on yours?
