It's good to have you join up Marco. We need more Italian members who appreciate vintage stereo gear, music, good food and wine.

Thank you for welcome .
I think a brief history of my hifi experience is now required .
Everything started in 1977 when my father bought a second hand PL 4000 .
Now he ( 87 ) has a pair of Infinity RS ''b powerd by a PL 400 , with a PL 5000 tuner .
After 3 or 4 years I started my adventure with a Carver C4000 and now
I have a pair of AR 9 bi-amped by two Carver M400a . I have also
a Yamaha Dsp 495 that powers center and rear speakers by Klpsch for
home theater.
In the last 4 months I restored an other PL 4000 and the PL 5000 .
PL 5000 ( never imported to Italy ) was my Christmas present to
my father ( better to say a present for me ) .
I alternate hifi with modelrailways and now it's time to discover
again hifi with new enthusiasm .
Ciao
Marco

Well Marco look over some of the threads in the WOPL building section. That's our nickname for a White Oaked Phase Linear, some pretty exciting things here lately....

Watch the skynyrd77 build thread though it gets a little crazy on there .. Just kidding have fun. You are deff in the right place for pl gear . But a white oak conversion is a required part of mempership.

Ciao Marco,

We're happy to have you here at Phoenix - it seems you have some nice PL/Carver hardware along with some other cool stuff. If you documented the PL 4000 restoration it would be cool to see what you did. One of the major complaints is the mother board flexes when boards are inserted and the connectors used for the daughter board/mother board interface were not the best. Anyways welcome - Italy has a very warm spot in my heart as I spent a bit of time there.

Ciao - Nav

Thank you again for warm welcome . ( the last two gifts are O.K. )
NavLinear ,
I have answered in the thread "PL 4000 issues" to tell what I did for restoration .
Skynyrd 77 ,
I'm studying WOPL kits ; I have started from beginnig using the Led kit .
Expecially I'm trying to understand the improvments in sound .
Now my problem is to find a PL 400 or 700b to have the right companion per the
second PL 4000 , but I have understood that it's hard also in U.S. for 700b .
Ciao
Marco
P.S : I have a doubt about earth connection in AC plant for PL 400 /PL 700 .
What's the right thread where to put the question ?

You can ask almost anywhere as this is still a small community but the most appropriate area could be the WOPL Building thread. With the Phase Linear amplifiers - 400 and 700 variants the earth ground is floating due to the design of the amplifier. If you connect earth ground to the chassis this may cause problems with the audio output - this is an older design with safety not a primary concern or government standard.
