Saturday night we were down in Toronto to take in a show. Wednesday was the reason we were there, but the opening act Cold Blue Rebels put on a great show. They are a rockabilly punk/metal act, with campy horror style lyrics. I was pretty impressed by their set. The rockabilly style sound is not something you often see anymore. These guys were like Stray Cats meets Alice Cooper.

I found them to be fairly interesting at first, but once the singer broke out the Harmonica, I was sold on them. This dood was a pretty bad ass harp player, and I wasnt expecting that at all.

I spoke with most of the members of the band after their show, and purchased both of their CD's at their merch table.

They were from Hollywood and this was their first time coming into Canada, and the first time touring outside the USA. They were all really nice guys and appreciated the interest from people at the show.

Here's a link to a youtube video of theirs. Kind of gives you the jist of their musical taste and style

Will be reporting back with more about the main act Wednesday 13.

We watched the first episode of the new season of the "Walking Dead" last night. Cold Blue Rebels would have made a good match for the series with their song "Love Of The Undead."

You will have to let us know whether the group's CDs are as good as their live performance. Nice to see the live shots, Ben. Is the Rockpile famous in Toronto? It might be the equivalent of our Commodore for live acts. I love small venues for the energy on stage. At the Commodore, I usually save the table at stage level front facing to the left of the stage.

Hey Nando,

Yes their CD's are pretty good. Some of the stuff leans more to the punk rock side, but it maintains the rockabilly vibe throughout.

We dont have AMC here so ill be watching Walking Dead at some point today. I agree that song would suit the show pretty good.

I dont think the Rockpile is overly famous although they generally seem to have good acts. It would seem the club is mainly a venue for live music. It certainly isnt on the same level as the Koolhaus or Sound Academy(formerly known as the Docks) but the smaller size makes for a more intimate show.

In our next tape exchange or MD exchange, I would like to hear a couple of their songs and your favourites recorded on the mix. When the Vinyl Only TTs are ready to be sent to you, I will include a sealed Sony Metal XR 60 for you, as I had promised awhile ago. And if I have time, I will record my latest rock mix for you.

It has been some time since we have exchanged anything Nando. I would gladly put together a little something when I have more available time for recording. I will be out of town next weekend again. Will be visiting Rob, as he is pushing the basement reno into the next phase. A good friend of mine, and master electrician, whom I worked as an apprentice under last year will be joining me for the electrical rough in.

I look forward to the Sony cassette Nando.
