Any opinions about this table? I know VPI has a really good reputation. Though the price of admission is on the high side, I've seen, and had, a couple of sub $500 TT's (new) and wasn't impressed.

There are some oldies out there that people generally prefer, but I don't have much confidence in my ability to make that kind of purchase.

I've owned a bunch of decent amps, preamps and speakers over the past but I never had an awesome source component. But yeah, I was in the Boston area a few months back and saw an Oracle TT used for a $1000 with a nice denon cart in a shop/warranty.

Hi
For almost the same price I can get you this.

http://www.needledoctor.com/Music-Hall- ... tegory=351

You know I don't really like making money off of you guys. This is my listing.

MMF-9.1 with Project 10CC tonearm, electronic speed control
and Goldring Eroica LX low-output moving coil cartridge ($750 value) It is cheaper than the VPI.

Are you going to change your TT amp. Just remember. The higher up the ladder you go the more you will see flaws in your system. I love my Micro. For 450.00 I can't beat it. The MH I sent Lee is the 2.2. Good intro table. Just think before you leap.

Better be ready to spend money on a LOMC stage if you plan to go that route.

If you want a very nice source like you mentioned you'll be spending at least what you have in the table on your SUT's and the like. Nothing cheap about getting into high end TT's with high end carts. You just got to ask yourself about diminishing returns......

If you don't need new then in this price range you can buy some very very nice used tables.

I'm enjoying my Denon DP-62L with the DL-160 cart. I'm not so sure I'd exchange it for the table listed in the link.
Don't know if I would either. Here is a Denon. I like lighter tonearms. I do like straight tonearms though.

That one is local here. Guy had way to much money on it on CL. This is more reasonable.

I got mine in the box with both arms and all the weights.

I've not used the straight arm as my understanding was the "s" arm is actually better. Might be time for more research.

I don't know enough to have a strong opinion either way about any of it. That Yammy above looks awesome!

My Technics SL-23 plays records well, with the AT440mla. I dont like that I can't move the arm up and down, and I dare say that there might be a subtle twist to the tonearm, when i look straight at the cart front as it rests on the Record.

I do like the detachable headshells though.

I've been aggrivated by the low end projects, and the plastic sub platter I have seen warped. Same on Rega, MH and others. That's really a pain in the ass when most records are not 100% flat to begin with. Yet, this old '76 Technics spins perfectly fine. Not sure how I feel about the suspended anti skate either or if I should care.

MC carts will definitely change things too. The Bellari won't work on its own but with thier step-up xfmr then maybe.

I recognize that headshell with the Grado? cart. That looks like the stock one that came on my Technics. It's heavier then the aftermarkets.

TOTL Kenwood? I've seen pics of those looking mighty fine if I remember!

Any of you guys ever experimented with vintage industrial type turntables? I have always had a desire to build on a Rek O kut K-33 type belt driven table and an SME tonearm. Any experience here and any observations?
I like the large oil well mainshaft concept with the single ball bearing at the bottom of the well. Seem very well designed.
I like my Technics SL-1200 Mk2 fine but it is a lightweight compared to the Rek.

No...haven't gone down this road yet. A friend here in town just got a pretty sweet Oracle table that has the single ball bearing design iirc.
