Well it came today. It looks brand new. With it and the DC PSU and Daqarta I should be able to do most everything; but W&F. So I can start to get serious on building this pre. Been working all day getting stuff ready to ship and cleaning out my box clutter. My table is almost half clean and my bench is better than it has been in a while. Tomorrow is trash day. So alot of cardboard is leaving.

I want one. I've always wanted a variac. They are about 20 dollars when I'm not serious, but when I'm serious, they sell for 100 dollars...

Congratulations on the variac and for still having 700+ more posts than stuwee!

That makes exactly 6000 posts as I post this.

He's going to run out of those little badges...

Looking to restore a 5 amp RARE Variac???? Here is the 3 meter model for a great price. I have one I'm restoring and had thought about scoring this one also. The old style meters WILL fit into it instead of the crap plastic rectangular meters. The owner offered it to me for $129 so the price is great. A couple new fuse holders, the meters are available (I had some dual scale meter faces made in case you are looking to match the original early model), and a rattle can paint job or powder coat job and you have a beautiful 3 meter 5 amp Variac like mine. The pic is the one i did and am doing another. And the link for the one for sale. I have the meter numbers if you want the old style like mine, they are not expensive if you shop around since they made millions of the meters. You can also see the meter numbers on 2 of the three meters. Just add the dual scale faces (which I have) and BAMMMMMM. I only see these pop up for sale about once a year. I also scored a NOS transformer but these Variacs usually saw limited use and the original should last or you can put in new brushes for less than 20 bucks.

Looks like the front panel should scrub up nicely. Sher cleaned up the one I'm doing a couple weeks ago and it is very presentable like this one should be.
