I was wondering if there sure be a section on this. Like for non-component products (powerline, interconnects, speaker cables, room tuning etc)

I'm looking for a surge protector/AC filter and I guess I would have to post under Amplifiers?

Thanks
Joe

Look at a Topaz 2.5 KVA or higher VA rated Ultra Isolator transformer. They are out of print but relatively available on the web for resale. You can get isolation and balanced power in one unit. It takes some wiring usually but it generally is worth it. They are also big and heavy so be prepared to pay for shipping or find on CL locally.

Ive thought about those kinds of things. I've seen a few beefy hospital grade ones in the past. Those seem like the best way to provide good AC, rather then running AC though a bunch of filters , I dunno.

That is a small one Larry, only 500W. The wiring diagram is generally inside the cover plate showing the terminal orientation since the designs vary significantly between the available frame sizes.

I will be able to run some components that don't draw much. CDP and a pre.If it works I will go larger. Can I get a meter to put in the box? I would like to watch the voltage. Maybe I will get the get up and go to build a box for it. No soldering involved. Thing I can do a wire up. Just ordered or bought 5 hospital grade outlets. 20 some bucks. I can also run circuit protection before and after. No biggie there. I can plug my DACs and things into it. Very low draw.

My 2.5KVA unit was one of those "right place, right time" things. Construction crew was remodeling a dentist office to make it into a new space of a different sort. The Topaz was going in the dumpster if I did not salvage it. Came with 25 feet of 8GA SO cord to boot which made it even sweeter. It makes a difference.

Speaking of SO cord. A constuction out fit here was bought out and we were GIVEN large spools of 12-3 and 12-4 all the way through #2-3, and #2-4 so . I mean large spools, 4 and 6 foot in diameter spools , brand new, SJ and SO, very nice stuff. All sizes in between #12, #10, #8, #6, #4. #2. And some odd lenghts of 4 ought(yep,0000) SJ.

Strip the insulation and sell the copper. LMBO

Oh no, no, no. Although plenty of that goes on around here we just put up a new machine shop fixin to be stuffed with machine tools. SO cord will be in high demand for awhile.

Electrically, it seems I've had random issues with this place. I've had appliances and equipment act up like I've never noticed. Everything lasted for years at my parents house and often decades. Now I'm in this apartment. The landlord is not surprisingly cheap and cuts a corner whenever he can. Also I don't think I've ever been fed directly from a pole with a monstrous capacitor box on it, at least I think that's what it is. I've also noticed the power company on it frequently.

If you pay an electric bill you have a rite to ask. Even if you don't if it is killing your appliances you have a rite to ask. And I would be asking. If you get the Belkin. You can measure a lot of things with it.

Do you mean a transformer like this?

I have one in back of my house in the alley. When a squirrel chews through a wire and fries a transformer it makes for one big bang. lol I ain't real good on the squirrel either. lol

I had the same problem, but the electric co fixed it by pullling the HV fuse link over to one side, away from the "squirrel trail" they use to run from my house to the neighbors.

Them transformers look like the ones in Jer's Yammie.

My electrical xformers are in boxes on the ground, all the utilities here are buried.

I guess it could be a transformer too here, I saw huge capacitors online like that so I thought maybe.

Yep, transformer. Squirrels don't pop, they go bang!

Those transformers are oil filled like a cap though.
