I would like to get into the discussion a little more. Like the different amps PP, and SE amps. I have read about them. My mind doesn't work as good as it use to. Plus I'm going to start rolling some tubes. So I would like to give reviews of them. You tube guys have your favorites. Do you guys think that the Chinese amps are as good as the US built amps.

Also how high in watts do you think tube and circuit technology can go. What about tubed front end gear, kits, mods, trouble shooting. What do you think gives you the most bang for the buck.

I mean Graham was talking very low wattage. Would you ever go that low? He brought up a few subjects that would be good to investigate.

You guys can start new threads.

Given the right speakers I think flea power would be fine. Some speakers are 100+db efficient, and that's usually measured at 1w/1m. I listen to music at mostly around 75-80db in a small room. My speakers are pretty average sensitivity, maybe like 90db. Based on ratings, I doubt I use more then a couple of watts to drive the speakers, generally. But I know I'm wasting a lot of electricity in heat. Warmest room in the house.

I don't know the limit but the new KT120 tubes are probably the most powerful readily available tube right now. Bob Carver made those 900wpc amps remember? : dudes-omg-wtf-t933.html

I'm just learning about tubes. Never heard an SET amp but it's has an audience. As far as Chinese goes, I really don't know. I have this Jolida integrated, but if I knew I was going to use an outboard preamp as much as I do, I would have likely gone for Quicksilver monos. My friend had a pair and I liked them a lot. I have nothing to compare to other then the SS amps I've had and I prefer the sound of this tube amp I have overall.

I've read from people that tear things apart and build, that the Jolida isn't bad per se, save a cap here, a volume pot there, etc., to make some improvements. The parts quality, such as the chassis, knobs, rca jacks and speaker jacks are excellent and should really last for generations. I'm glad I went with the 60wpc build, because when I really do feel like cranking it up, I feel I wouldn't want less then I have right now.
