I have 2 of them. 1 is a Grant Fidelity the other is a Shanling. I can honestly say they do not sound like regular CDPs. The Shanling is in a class all its own. I have other CDPs. They just can't compete with these 2. I have a Denon and an Onkyo also. I'm waiting for my Carver CDP since I have never heard it. It will go in of course my Carver/PL system. I hope I'm not disappointed.

Interesting perspective. On the other side of the coin I have experimented with swapping out op amps on items from receivers to PC sound cards. From what I have researched and actually heard, it seems that each op amp carries it's own sound. Makes me wonder if finding the right model amp may actually produce a "tube-like" sound at the output. Just a theory, but hmmm... maybe I'll experiment some more with different models.

Yeah, probably won't get the "tube" sound down, but it's all in the name of science.. hehe

For the right price you to can own one. LOL J/K If you can get a Shanling I would very much recommend one. I don't think I can get them anymore.

The Grant Fidelity was a good price at one time. Till a reviewer said it sounded like a CDP that should cost over 1000.00 then guess what the price jumped to. The Shanling is awesome. It has some neat features you would find in a very high priced comparable CDP. If I remember it is a dual mono output, with another tube section for the headphone. It also has different sampling rates you can switch with the remote. Also you can wire it on the outputs analog or digital. That is why I have never had a DAC. It was 2000.00. Parts Conexxion does upgrades on it. They do upgrades on a lot of things.
