I'm very curious about any tech item

I have just bought a Td 145 mint (also the cover ) for 300 €.
I have mounted a Stanton CS 100 with Pickering stylus by Huco ,
according your suggestions.
Considerations :
-The "transplant " Pickering on Stanton is O.K.
-The difference in level between the two channels is less than 1 dB .
-I have compensated the the capacitance according PL 4000 manual .
-The Td 145 is the same as Td 160 with automatic end record system .
( very important feature )
Conclusion :
The sound is great !!!!
Thank you again guys for the suggestion about the stylus .
Ciao
Marco

I must have missed that thread. I would have suggested a Shure V15 w/ Jico SAS stylus. Or maybe a MC like a Ortofon MC20 Super II. I have not heard many Stanton carts other then a few DJ ones. They did sound good!!

I have an Empire 2300 cart with a good 2000 needle on the way from a member myself, so I'm rather happy.

Two months ago I had found a CS 100 cart in my father's house and I had asked here
for a replacement stylus . I had some links from you , in which I had found that the best solution
is Pickering Stylus and so I bought a clone by Huco ( a Swiss brand ) for 54 €
Consider also that Cs 100 was the best cart by Stanton in the 80s and
that the "marriage " between Thorens arm and Stanton was considered perfect .
So for 54€ for me is a good result .
Cs 100 could be considered a super 681 EEE .
The difference is samarium cobalt coils that need a special cantilever for best results.

I bought one years ago at a church rummage sale for ten bucks. I almost kept it, as I decided I liked my Dual better, but eventually it went bye-bye too, as did the big Advent speakers I bought for peanuts at the same rummage sale.

Sounds like a great match then Marco! The Stanton cart I have here is a 680 EL, sounded pretty good but I don't really have a need for it. It came on the SL-1200mk2 I got at a yardsale

First of all now I feel 40 years younger .
It has been very amazing for me adjusting weight , load , antiskating and studying Thorens manuals.
And after listening tests with :
-Child in time ( Deep Purple )
-You can do magic (America )
-Long ago and far away ( James Taylor and Joni Mitchell )
-I have got a music in me ( Thelma Houston )
special live recording without tape
-Take five ( Dave Brubeck quartet )
-What kind of fool ( Barbra Streisand and Barry Gibb )
special recording called half speed master
-Altec Odissey ( various authors )
special recording by AM
-Pictures at an exhibition ( Mussoursky -Ravel )
both versions : orchestra and piano solo
-etc .....
I am very happy !

Hello Marco, big congrats on joining the Thorens club. If you like it now, enjoy!! You can upgrade later as time and funds permit :happy2:

Does it have the original arm?

An upgrade to a SME 3009 II Improved tonearm with a Shure V15III or V15IV with a Jico stylus will take it a level or two up. Any Thorens guru's near you? You will need a new arm board for the SME with proper cutouts. The arm looks very complicated but, is very fun to set up.

:hello1:Enjoy buddy :hello1:

@ Northwinds
I do agree for Deep Purple but don't forget Smoke on the water
@ Orange
At present I can't find The six wives of Henry VIII . Slurp !!!
@ Stuwee
There are problems some problems to fit SME arm on TD 145 ,
because this unit is a td 160 with an automatic end of record system .
The arm is original and the end record system is made with an other leverage with 2
micro switches and and an inductive sensor .
Consider also that my father is 89 and so for me it's better to have this feature .
It' s a pity to destroy it ; better to find a td 160 S with Sme hole or a Td 125 .
Anyway a brief history of TTs and carts of my family .
We had a SME arm II improved , but my father replaced it with SME III
Carts story in the time :
Adc 10 E MK IV
Decca of London ( blue Type )
Shure V15 III
Shure V 15 IV
Ortofon OMC 10 with its step up transformer
Stanton CS 100
and now Grado ( I don't remember model )
The first TT of my father is Denon direct drive
and the second is now this TD 145 .
I have a Linn Lp 12 with Linn Ittok and a Dynavector Karat I
As you can see the story is long and complicated .
Fortunately my father lives at 3 miles far from my house
and so it's very easy to play his systems with him .
Ciao
Marco
