Mary Tyler Moore died today in a Connecticut hospital. She was 80.

She certainly was a mover and shaker in show business. I grew up watching the Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Rhoda etc... shows that confronted the touchy issues of the time with humor. Her throwing her hat in the air is an iconic image of Women's Freedom. RIP Mary, you were the new Lucille Ball with a serious side

I hadn't realized that the one of the last programs I believe MTM Enterprises had produced was St. Elsewhere, and that the cat in the logo, her beloved Mimsie passed away as well in the same year it left the air (1988)...the very last episode of the show ended with Mimsie on life support with an EKG and IV drip and it beeps and then flatlines

As much as you can't get the image of her flinging her tam in the opening, you can't forget Mimsie, especially when she has a police cap, or Bob Newhart says Meow. MTM had a lot of shows on the air, although few that weren't related to the MTM Show cast lasted long, the exceptions being Lou Grant (a drama this time), Hill St. Blues and St. Elsewhere.

I also loved the way the Newhart ended with Bob waking up and the entire show had been a dream, and he was in the same old bed with Suzanne Pleshette...a great gesture as she was in her last days at the time.
