Well finding a transport was kicking my butt. I have found a Denon DD with no belts. Would like dual capstan ; but that puts us in an all together market. Sam I got the brushless motor going. I deoxed the coils and lubed the capstan. Now it is going 3000 mph. LOL Getting the manual soon. Now to get the tube circuitry going.

I have to tear the transport apart and mic everything and make a cad drawing to see what the cost will be to make it. I am excited about this. I'm still looking at the 1st of the year. For it to be ready for testing.

This will be a deck that has never been seen before. It will be a Cadillac that is for sure.

Hi Larry,
Are you trying to build a prototype or a mass production of sorts? Is the DD motor running at the right speed? As you have found out with the cassette loading venture,
the cost of doing these simple things is ridiculously high as the raw parts are not just sitting in a warehouse due to the economy. Who will make tape anymore anyway?
I was part of a video duplication facility that loaded their own tapes and this was in a clean room type condition- VHS tapes. To show the quality of the tape matters- we had a regular maintenance schedule going on until some guys wanted to sub in cheap Fuji tape for the then standard 3M, The repairs hit the roof when the Fuji shedding tape came into the mix. I guess with all the over time they, did not save any money at all.
I am all for cassettes as I think when all DAT, DCC and other fancy units are gone to dust the cassette deck will still be working. There does seem to be a problem getting rubber parts and I think it is an excellent opportunity for Terry to expand his business.
My advice is to go after a proven design and just rebuild that. I like the Z6000 but there can still be improvements made as in the heads. Mechanics wise there is nothing more to be done.

Hi Sam
No the DD is going at 3000 mph. I got the manual yesterday. I'll be in my garage this afternoon. I have 2 decks with speed problems. So I'll be working in there this afternoon. These decks will be custom built by hand. I'm hoping I can get this one right. I like the no belts. I haven't forgotten sending the tapes. I have just been pretty busy. Will get them out soon.

Hi Sam
We aren't going for the mechanics. We are going for sound. There are a lot of things I can't get into on this deck. We will have some external adjustments. The one right now is for playback only. I have had a lot of interest in other forums. I can talk about the exterior. Mine will be Burgundy lacquer with Rosewood panels. With analog meters with blue leds. All lighting will be blue leds. Everything will be flush. All adjustments will be push to extend and push to recess. The faceplate will be machined aluminum unless you want it painted. The labels will be laser engraved. Anything not painted will be black powder coated. We do have some issues we will get worked out. I would like to go with a standard motor and not the brushless. The interior will be unique also. This will be a deck you want if you collect decks. There will be no NR. Sam you will have PM.

Wow, I'm lookin' forward to this project, I have to agree with Sam, the later Teac transports are about as good as it gets, belts and all :ugeek:

The blue analog LED VU's intrigue me, will they intensify as you reach peak 0db? Flash as you go past peak?

Is Jerry, meter master involved?

Your crazy. It has taken me months just to find a transport I like. Yes when you hit Mach a flashing red light starts. I have been through so many decks looking for the transport. My garage looks like a deck junk yard. I have 3 to strip down very soon for parts. I have bought so many manuals it isn't funny. I have about a ream of paper laying at my feet that I have to go through and bind it. Yes I have asked Jerry to do the LEDs.

I guess I should take my meds. I'm starting to try and rationalize everything I'm doing. Guess I should go take them and write in about 20 mins. LOL

Hi Larry,
I have gotten an answer back from ANT that I guess you talked to. Oh well, he is not interested and I don't have the time for the experimentation and design research to help you on this level of design even if you were to want it or not. I am still working- at least till Wednesday. The circuit design needs to focus on quietness and longevity in the attempt to get away from Electrolytic capacitors in using smaller values such as those of polystyrene and Polyester. That way the failures will be few if any down the road. No cost cutting should be done with regard to the head preamp section and it's wiring. I can't wait to see the specs on this one.

Hi
I could have told you ANT wasn't interested. We will get it I'm sure. We will keep trying to do this by trial and error. Thank you Sam for trying. I appreciate it. I'm shipping your tapes tomorrow.

We will get this built. I am confident of that. Tomorrow I hope to start on the mock up.

Well Thank You Sam

Very Good,
Meter circuit and those of LEDs are pretty easy. Flashing LED is not a problem either so if there is a difficulty getting the designs together, I can help- more if I happen to become unemployed. Brightness modulation is not a problem either to a limit. The Blue LED's remind me of the well received Blue Pioneer metered cassette decks that always were nice to watch. Most don't know that these displays were really green with a filter on them. Most Florescent displays are green in output although I think I have seen some orange ones made too.

Well I have been thinking about it again. Have to contact dolby s about it. I really in my mind think this would fly. Sam do you have any of the transports laying around. I can do the sheet metal work. just to get one unit going we need cad drawings of every component then a manual written. For having a small brain I think alot. how small of a torroidal transformer could we get. I mean in size. If any one wants to help just say the word. I have the feet they are cool and the RCA jacks and the IEC. It would be nice to show up at the CES with a tube cassette deck. It would blow people away.

The only down side is I can't really take the lead in this. I'm so busy. If it flies you would be rewarded money wise.
