I know all of us have rather large collections of music, from CD's to Reel's and through the mountains of records. But, how do you choose? Do you just llok and see what makes your interest perk or, do you have a system?

Myself, I have a loose system ordered by shelves. One shelf usually per day, working from left to right, the next day the next shelf, I just pick up where I left off the next time I come back around.

You guys?

I need some sort of order, or I just start doing the below,

No method to my madness, but periodically I enjoy spinning something that a member has listed recently as being played. Copy cat action, ya know?

Stare at the record and cd shelf or tape racks, until something pops out at me...for the most part. Some days I just stare. When I'm drinkin I like to go for a mix tape or reel, so I can spend less time changing tunes, and more time drinking.

Same as when I go to the fridge...I open it up and stare until something looks too good to leave it there. Play and repeat...

Funny - did she look you in the eye or look away?

Good question.

Keeping a collection down to a reasonable size is the key to enjoyment. Too many titles can be overwhelming.

My musical selections are normally based on the mood I'm in.

Anything I receive from members, whether it's a cassette mix tape, mix MiniDisc, or music download gets first play over any of my own collection. That's because I like to hear new material. But second to gift-tunes, I would say my newest buy on LP gets the first play...and I have been finding lots of good stuff in used vinyl, lately.
