A friend asked me about this and I think it's a very interesting piece of gear. It makes me think of old school full featured receiver/integrateds that used to pour out of Japan in the 70's, but now here with modern updates.

I've never known a lot about HK, but this seem to borrow some Levinson/Lexicon features plus a real beefy amplifier section.

I don't think I'd ever buy one, but there does seem to be a lot going on here for $2k. When I think about my old Pioneer SX-1280, and how much it cost originally, the cost was a lot higher when inflation is considered (had a tuner though).

If you get a moment, check out all of the features on this and look over the pictures on the link above.

Anyway, I was just curious about some thoughts on this if anyone has any.

I like the older HK gear. Before Harmon bought them. They bought Levinson also if I remember right. Where is the THD specs. I didn't see them. For 2000.00 you can get some very nice amps. They may not have all the bells and whistles; but are very good amps. I would shop a little bit for a nice 2 channel amp used.

Hi Joe,

Some very nice features on the HK. Of course, I would have liked one with a tuner section, and more than one tape loop. But, it does have the phono inputs for both MC and MM phono cartridges. And a pair each of coaxial and optical inputs with record outs. Looks like it has siamesed right and left channel amplifier sections, and it bodes well it will double the wattage into a 4 ohm load. Was the weight of the unit quoted anywhere?

Pioneer has an audiophile amplifier rated at half the wattage of the HK.

It's 43lbs, 109db s/n. Seems like if it's paired with the matching CD, the player becomes a transport and the connection is via that levinson based data transfer.

Has some interesting room correction/dual sub/ bass management too. Nothing I look for but interesting.

Thanks for sharing the pioneer info
