i've always thought of AH as a step up from Hafler, and not really a hi-end name, but i could be wrong of course. the modded unit in the link may be something special, but i've always seen the stock AH pre's in the $150 range on the used market.

I went through a period of preamp experimentation about six years ago. I used a Holman APT for a few months. The Holman has a lot of cool features you would find on a much more expensive unit. But, I didn't like its sound; I felt like it was dull and lifeless. I have read such great things about the Holman, that I wonder if mine had problems or if they are just over-rated. I think Hafler and Phase Linear preamps (which I also tried) were better units at about the same cost.

By the way, the one preamp I regret selling during this period of experimentation was a Scott Alpha One - beautiful and a good performer.

Hey guys, I guess after rereading that AH was a modded by Ken version...still nice tho, killer specs (we all know specs don't tell everything).

Jimmy, thank you for your results .

Lee, I'm interested in this Phase Linear P3600, I've heard great things about it's phono as well, I just wish it looked like the big, bad ass 3000 II :glasses8:

Maybe a phono section transplant?? :evil3::evil3::evil3:
