Dick Clark died during a surgical procedure when he had a heart attack, something that can be unfortunately quite common in such conditions as you becaome aged.

Dick became a DJ in New York while still a teen at 17, went on to take over as host of American Bandstand (in 1957-Bandstand started in philadelphia in 1952 as a band standards show as Clark related in an interview) and formed Dick Clark Productions, which also became famous for New Year's Rockin' Eve, his outakes show with Ed McMahon, a new awards show called The American Music Awards and many other endeavors that made him a major media player.

Dick had a stroke a few years ago and missed one Rockin' Eve outright, after which Ryan Seacrest and others dutifully kept the hard work and fun rolling along. He returned with less duties the next year.

When the soul of a man dies, it is not extinguished in the hearts and memories of those he touched.

Old clips help too.
