I have a Teac A-4300SX that I have owned for about 6months. Never had an issue with it since day one, til today. Tried recording from my laptop (which i have done many times before) and when I record nothing is beeing laid on the tape. The orginal audio is still on the reel, so its is not recording new audio or erasing the the audio that was on there originally.

More specifics:
Laptop is wired directly into the input on the RtR
Input level is at 5
I can hear the audio from the source (laptop)
Heads are clean.
Heads have not been demagnatized in a few months.

So its not erasing or laying the new audio down, I am at a reel (pun intended) loss as far as what the issue is.

Really could use some advise fellas.

Thanks in advance.

You have recorded before directly from your laptop to tape on the Teac? I would have thought the best method would have been to go laptop to digital to analog converter to stereo amplifier and then from the amp to the R2R deck. When you say you can hear the source playing from the laptop is that with headphones plugged into the R2R deck with the switch set to Source?

Sounds like its not engaging the record at all. Can you get signal on the meter's when monitoring the source?

Well through some tinkering I believe I have it up and running again. Seems it may have just been dirty contacts on the board that all the heads are wired onto.

All praise the power of a can of air and a little contact cleaner.
