Speaker placement and the bashing of HPM 100's

Hello I was surfing the net looking for the newest ides's of speaker placement came up with a couple Cardas method, Audio physics method, rule of thirds and WASP they probably all have been around in one form or another There appeared to be some disagreement ( No really?) about what works best. Then I went sideways to see what the preferred method was for Pioneer HPM 100's Holy S...! not only do I own a piece of crap amp but my speakers are also a piece of crap too Who knew? ( just kidding ) I love the sound of my amp and speakers and there is some support for both but the Pioneers?
Wow my sytem took a review beating this week! Well I did try some tweaking of position to see if there was any improvement in sound stage focus etc which at this point seems as good as I can get in my listening space. There is a 8' pool table in the middle along with odd boundaries around the room. I hope to have a relaxing listening session tonight with some new jazz records I picked up the other day Ralph Towner and Jeff Beck Wired and if I have enough time or can stay awake some Chick Correa.

Well here goes my opinion on placement. When I'm doing a true listening session as I will be in a bit. I sit in the middle of the room about 8' from the speakers. I do have them toed in. I was told to use the spikes and lean them 6 degrees back to get the timing of the tweeter right. OK I tried that. I usually don't use spikes; but I did for this experiment. I heard no difference what so ever. 20 odd years as an aircraft mech has left my hearing has a little to be desired. I hear highs all the time with no music. LOL Yes I have Tinnitus. I took the spikes off and put them the way they were.If the speakers are well built with 3/4 or 1" MDF you should get no resonance. So I think you can experiment; but it is your ears so do as you wish. Whatever sounds best to you.

I t was not specifically aimed at my set up specifically it was more of general consensus of posts from different forums I visited to read post's about Carver in general and HPM 100's specifically being poor performers etc. the items I have in my current set up. I use to get kind of upset thinking that my ability to judge my equipments quality was poor or sad but now not so much. I build acoustic instruments Violins,Dulcimers and other types of zithers. I like to think I have a pretty good idea of tone. I play acoustic and electric guitar and bass and dulcimer, my wife the violin and I have a small recording studio that shares my listening room. I like to think I know what live music sounds like. I have met alot of really nice people through different groups and forums you guys especially but I think I need to spend more time looking for ,listening to and playing music and less time on the net. Simplify, enjoy, and worry less about things that I don't know why I am worrying about them in the first place You know what I mean?

I can,t speak for your Amp ,,but until very recently I owned a pair of HPM-100s,,and have heard as much Pro as Con about there sound as for me I thought they sounded fine ,,I sold them to a young guy who wanted to get a start into the world of Analog,,and while my Marantz sound great they lack the low end that the Pioneers are famous for

I have to agree that Pioneer does put out some Bass in their speakers.

I know exactly what you mean Dwight. And I salute a true craftsman such as youself. A great deal of patience and understanding are essential to your craft. It comes off in the way you write also.
