Well, I did a thread titled "Amp Juggling," in which I concluded it was a good thing to know the capabilities of your different amps. Now, for speakers...

I went for a walk today and thought about my MX-1 minisystem. I do some of my best thinking while walking, and I remembered an experiment I'd never carried out - using my Mission 70's in place of the "A" full-range speakers. I had been wondering if the two little full-range speakers were really getting the best out of the amp section. Both speakers are 8 ohms, why not? I merely placed one Mission in front of the MX-1 speaker, swapped the "A" wires to the Mission, while the "B" wires were still connected to the subwoofer in the MX-1 speaker. Then my wife and I listened while I cranked the balance knob left, then right. I figured a real tweeter and a mid/woofer (British at that) would beat two Japanese full-ranges, and they did. The upper registers were better filled out, and there was "sparkle." We like it, and the Missions were sitting idle anyway. We even get to avoid the hazards of running two sets of speakers, for which I have a pair of modded Fishers sitting idle also.

I used to like the top end sound of some of the mission speakers I've heard. Smooth and non-fatiguing. However Bass shy. Been many years since I listened though.

ive done a lot of swapping myself. When you have good products, you find pluses and minuses. If the products aren't great, there are no pluses and you get rid of them.
