Setting up a TT

Well I'm sure there are a lot that can set up a TT better than the and not break a Jico. Yes I'm still upset. I go over every procedure 3 or 4 times. Here is the 1st LP played on it. Still have to set the speed.Have to find my speed disc. Put it where I wouldn't forget. LOL Guess what?

Do you have any tricks that may help?

Well I have a problem. The table is level. I messed with the anti-skate. Put the weight up to 1.5 grams. It doesn't follow the grooves to the 1st song. It goes directly to it. What am I doing wrong?

Ideally, the anti-skate adjustmemt should be equal to the stylus pressure setting. Try that setting first, Larry.

My anti-skate isn't set that way. I have an arm with a small weight. I have moved it every way I can. LOL Thanks though.

LOL It sounds great. I forgot how good vinyl sounds. Have to go get my D-4 fluid though. Right now I'm cleaning with a carbon brush. It is doing a good job.

Well with a little more investigation. I have found the anti-skate adjustment is missing. Oh well gotta live with it for awhile. Guess I'll contact John. Maybe he has a tonearm for sale. Maybe I can get him to install it also. Guess we shall see. Not happy. I guess it is pretty close. Once it hits the grooves it sounds good and doesn't skate. LOL

There is varying opinion on antiskate. Nando is right as a common rule. The dingle-berry antiskate isn't a precise setting though. If the arm is getting thrown in the groove with everything level, I would take it up a notch.

I have went the whole realm of adjustments. It follows the grooves on the inside. Trust me my 1st thought was it level. It sounds good. I'm not very happy. Every time I start saving money. I need something else. LOL That costs more. LOL

What type of anti-skate Larry? Similar to the dangling wieght on an SME? Or adjustment knob which a generally magnetic?

The knob is gone. I have an arm to make minuet adjustments. I had to find pics of others and look. I saw a black line and wondered what it was for. The adjustment is on a copy and the picture is black. So you can't see it.

Is there any agreement on what's best design practice for antiskate, or is it more about the manufacturers execution of the design itself?

Larry, can you get a hold of where the knob would attach with anything? It should take much to turn it and make an adjustment.

The 'dingle-berry' kind can be made with fishing line, had to replace mine line, and in a pinch a nut or anything that wieghs the same as the original wieght. I see that there is a couple possible wieghts for SME's.

Well I looked. It is broken off up inside the recess. I have tweezers. I may be able to turn it. Think I will take it to the LR.
