I just picked up a pair of brand new Sennheiser 'phones off a guy who had to run out and get the lates Beats Audio fare peddled by some rapper, if I recall. Anyway, the Sennheisers sound superb to me. A lot of bass, which is to be expected of over-the-ear cans. I know the HD-428's are not the TOTL fare offered, but I like them. Maybe not so much as my Yamaha YH-2 Orthodynamics, which still sound super superb considering they are 1981 vintage.

Anyone else have Sennheiser cans, and your opinions please.

I had a pair of sennheiser headphones a long time ago that were packaged with a prologic processor. I think it was in 2000-2001. I didn't care much for the processor, but the headphones were excellent as I recall. We had Grado to back then, which I also liked but the Senn's were far more comfortable. I recently tried some newer AKG that I thought I would like, don't remember model, but they were expensive, oversized pillow very pro/studio looking. I didn't love them.

I have never tried Senn. but I have Grados right now. I liked the AKGs but they made my ears sweat. Stuwee has them now he bought them. I like my open Grados. For the price very good headphones. I have had to wear what we called Mickey Mouse ears for so many years. I just like the open headphones. Alot of people like headphones because they sound better. This is my thinking. If you have to wear headphones to get better sound then something is missing. I prefer my speakers for sound quality. Just my opinion and thinking.

The sennheisers I had back then were fully around the ear and also open backed. Very comfortable. I can't seem to wear on-ear designs as they make my ears hurt. I loved that they had detachable cords, as I would, on occasion step on the cord getting up off the computer chair.

I prefer listening to music through speakers too, as music is a full body visceral experience, which headphones can't do. They do of course avoid room acoustic issues, crossover and phase distortions which allow you to peer a little deeper into the recordings microcosm of information. I've heard some speakers/systems that do that pretty well, but nothing short of at least 5 figures. And I don't mean monitors, I'm talking about full dynamics, bass and all.

I try a lot of different ways to get the sound I like. I'm not so much into room treatments. I do little things. I'm lucky I can sit down at a computer and do some serious research. Before I buy most things? Before I bought the Grados I researched very hard for the bang for the buck. This place has so many different people and I research a lot I read about. I listen to peoples opinions in here.

I don't think that anyone who cares enough about putting a system together doesn't do research.

For the money laid out you had better have at least a clue of what you like.

I agree 100% Lee. You can't just throw things and hope they stick. That isn't cost effective. I didn't get the B&Ws because of the price of the ones I wanted. Enough said back to cans. LOL
