back around 5/9/2009, i once again hit the "name your price" rummage sale
that is held in my area once every couple of months or so.
i happened to find there, and paid the princely sum of $1.00 for,
a vintage 1970/1972 German made Idler-Drive ELAC brand "MIRACORD 46"
Turntable, OEMed for RAT SHACK's Realistic imprint.
i had spent that morning/noon giving that thing a once over.
i removed the transport assembly from the plinth,
and applied some OLD ENGLISH wood polish to it. then i went and replaced
the stock power cord, GND lead and stereo RCA's with a higher quality set.
i also went ahead and applied a few treatments of CD scratch remover
to the acrylic dustcover, removing the scuffing and restoring it to a like new sheen.
i also got hold of this pack of four spring-loaded kitchen table leveling feet
that ended up working beautifully on the TT, looking as if they were made for it, IMO.
i topped it off with a fresh, low-hours ADC VLMmk.II Cart/Styli
taken from my first and only TT until this beauty came along,
a late-1970's era but rather junky BSR 200BAX.
at any rate; the finished product:
the SQ? LOVELY.
the physical fit and finish? ROCK SOLID.
this TT seems to have it all, and seems like it would be quite tough to beat.
still, as you may already be well aware of, my ideal is an all PIONEER audio end.
that, of course, includes the TT.
that however, looks to be a dream that may or may or may not ever see fruition,
as i believe i'd be a fool to part with this ELAC for just about anything less
than my ultimate dream TT, the super-rare PIONEER PL-90,
and perhaps much more realistically, a PL-71,
considering how prohibitively rare and expensive the PL-90 tends to be...
