Switched over to a new cell phone company a while back and now they are offering a pretty stellar offer to new customers, so I'm sharing the info here.
The company is called Ting and they are essentially an ala carte service provider that uses the Sprint network/coverage map. If you are like me, paying $75 or more a month
for cell phone service when I don't use the data plan much, or really talk or text that much, was becoming an obvious waste of money. Even $50, $60 a month is too much if you ask me.
I do use a smart phone but the usage pattern varies and WiFi is super handy but sometimes I don't use my phone much at all except for an occasional text or call. When I don't use it much I figure I shouldn't be charged nearly as much.
If you are looking for a way to graduate to a lower cost smart phone solution, if you already have a Sprint or unlocked smart phone (out of contract) and you want to move it in order
to save some serious coin month-to-month or you even want a low cost cell phone provider without a smartphone but simply a flip phone or whatever, check these cats out.
Right now they doing a deal for new customers where you either get $100 off a new phone or you can use that same $100 applied to your account as a credit towards your monthly phone bill if you buy a used/refurbished or bring your own device.

So to size this up a bit, their service is laid out like this:
You pay a base $6 a month to have an active device.
Then the first 100 minutes of voice cost $3.
The first 100 text messages cost $3.
The first 100 megabytes of data costs $3.
So if you use all three facets of a smartphone, just total it up. $15. Their taxes and fees are about a buck for me and not included in that $15. YMMV.

For people like me that use WiFi at work, at home and around town with so many Hot Spots these days, my bill has been averaging $15 a month. On smartphones, you can now make voice-over-wifi calls for free with Google too. Now if I'm traveling and I have to connect and my phone bill goes up, say to 100 minutes of voice, 100 texts and just shy of 500 megabytes of data, my bill is still around $24. With the same talk minutes and text level and jumping up to a gigabyte of data, it goes up to $31. Still way cheaper than locking in at some absurd high priced plans that most people sign up with these days. You pay for what you use and if you don't text - for instance - you aren't charged anything in that service category. So if you didn't use your phone one month, your base bill would be $6. The annual savings are huge if you are like me and you aren't a phone junkie. And if you are a bigger user, the savings are still there. Another nice thing is that they bill you in arrears, instead of hitting your credit card up front, or essentially paying in advance. Like a normal utility bill. What a concept huh? Hell, I know people using those prepaid service phones, that are available at Walmart, paying more than me and they have to refill regularly or they lose any un-used money.
These Ting cats have a huge list of BYOD (bring your own devices), so you can source your own used phone from just about anywhere. They also offer good prices on used phones, refurbed phones and new phones if you are into that kind of thing. The $100 they are offering, if not used for a new phone discount, becomes a service credit which is big. The Sprint network is solid around me, so it's an excellent solution, but anyone considering these guys as a provider would need to research the coverage map and also talk to people you know to see if the Sprint network is solid in your area. The Ting customer service folks are always available, not based in the Philippines or India, and are helpful in answering questions. Ting is based in Toronto btw.

a good company with high ratings from Consumer Reports. I've been checking out most all the low-cost options for cell phone services, even had Metro PCS for a while,
but nothing has saved me money like these guys. I like paying for what I use and not being charged over the top when I don't.
