I brought an old friend out of retirement for the reconfiguration for the Onix's debut :D
I had to take the Yamaha pre out of the 'puter room to the main rig, the SAE is now with the Kenwood Basic M1D and the Luxman K-112 cassette deck in the 'Wall of Sound' spare bedroom  AR 4x's and a big truck box Hehe!!
What someone said about it... http://preamplifierscontrollers35.yourf ... amp_N.html

some before and after's...

Stuwee: You know, if I hadn't been such a Pioneer nut, I could have gone SAE, myself. The looks exude Professional. I look for SAE components, locally, but they rarely pop up.

Thanks Nando, they have an extreme following of die hards, the pre is just such a cool design to use, waaaay ahead of it's time, I'd love to see a schematic of the inside, everything is microprosser controled. I'm wasting it in this set-up, but what the hell, I wish my cam was better

Using something below its capability doesn't waste it, it only lifts the others up!!

That is some serious stuff. Congratulations.

Well boys and girls, the SAE has awoken, it was just sitting there for a couple years, I mentioned the hic-up at first plug in (I never would have known if it wasn't for the output meters fluxuating). Suddenly in the middle of a song, I started going 'what the hell'? edges of notes popping out of thin air, and a huge soundstage appeared behind me  , this is with a type I Fuji tape on the mid-line Luxman deck. Wow, I'm in love all over again, I may need some extra Tara Labs IC's for this system to really flesh things out :D

Too Kewl :love10: :laughing4: :love10:

That's good to hear, stuwee. A good preamplifier can make the biggest difference in the world to opening the... shall I say, sound stage. I can imagine how the phono side might sound.

I am a big fan of James's work, I still use my Thoebe pre, and I still have but not in use a pair of Sons of Ampzilla. I also still use my SAE 2900 pre, my first step into seperates with a 3100 amp, in my travel setup.

James designed stuff to last. He is still answering questions at SAE talk.

Let em sing Craig!

Jim
