Hey boys and girls, had a session with these very pricey speaks, not bad, not bad at all.

I met a guy at the local watering hole here in the desert, got to talking music, then equipment came up,..."would I like to hear some Revel's?"...does a bear shit in the woods?? Not the most intelligent respose from the stumiester but, it got me in the door Hehe!

http://harmanhighperformance.blogspot.c ... -uses.html

Day'um nice speakers, he was runnin' a sweet Thorens 124 with a SME arm, a Lyric something moving coil cart, Holman ATP Preamp (very vintage, recently refurbed by him), and wait for it.....

SAE 2600 power amp, big yeller meter's...be still my heart...stu almost died, however, it just didn't sound right. He had a smallish room, maybe 20' by 20', tile floors, very live room. Massive bass but very thin mids and highs were overly bright. Looks like they're $3,000 speaks retail, I was nice and said you need to work the room interaction a bit more. I'm dying to hear the AKG phones thru that magical preamp/Thorens/SME/Lyric combo, hope he calls back next weekend....

I was impressed with the dynamics, still no match for my old Logan's in presentation, speed, clarity and soundstage tho.

I guess I'm just not a box speaker fan, doesn't let the music breath/expand...for 3 grand, I'd take my moolah elsewhere.

You need to creep up north a few miles and have a listen to what I have going on now Stu. I think it's the bee's knee's but would love to have someone like you review it.

Paul, Skratch is stoping by my place Sunday. I'm kind like you in that this will be the first time someone who has been exposed to some good systems over the years gets to hear mine. I really want to know how it stacks up.

I'll be waiting for this review as I know you and your better half have good ears and know what you are listening for.

Me I'm half deaf in one ear and can hear halfway outta the other :rabbit:

My exposure to high end gear is very limited, so this will be a revelation.

When you already have the best, there is only one direction to go......

I still remember hearing the Pipedreams at CES several years ago. I had just built the Linus Arrays and the Pipedreams represented "the speaker" at which the Linus had been emulating.. I remember what it felt like to be unimpressed (to say the least) with this $75,000.00 pair of speakers.

I guess my experience is limited too. And 'synergy' is important, I didn't peek at what cables/IC's he was using, and bet there was an issue with what he had there. most of us spent a lot of time and effort putting our rigs together for the best sound, some folks just throw money at it and hope for the best, that usually doesn't work out.

He never called back, Drat!

Scratch is a lucky guy, he'll be treated well up Wyo way!!

Rex, I'll see what I can do, I'd love to meet ya and the Mrs. and the kiddies, hear what you have :thumbright:

There really isn't any experience in listening to equiptment, your accustom to one system, yours. When you experience another system you can only determine if it sounds better than what you have, comparison. The room acoustics have a huge effect on sound, so no matter if your system is 500.00 or 15000.00 dollars. If the room isn't a fit for the speakers and acoustics, it will sound thin or loud instead of musical. One thing I come to learn is that most of the great sounding systems have all the side and front walls dampened ahead of the speakers and no damping on the back wall of where the speakers are placed, like a music hall or theatre. The side walls and front walls mostly have drapes from floor to ceiling, this must give the best results for room damping.
