Not really needing a zillion watts anyway...I have these large cabinets with decent mids and tweeters already and one badly patched up OEM Pioneer in one to start with.

I don't need huge power, I need SPL...air moving efficiently.

Hence I ask about these...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-THE-FISHER-15-ALNICO-WOOFERS-from-XP-10-SPEAKERS-/291318988680

See this thread in FS...http://forums.phxaudiotape.com/showthread.php/5612-15-quot-woofers-wanted-for-ugly-speaker-rebuild

If I stick to the 60-75 watt range, I wonder if they might make a nice pair of three way speakers.

The one real challenge would be that the DCR measured for the pair was around 4 ohms. Using stock crossovers might be a problem, and would likely need some modification.

To refresh without going to the article directly the speaker model is Pioneer CS-T5100-K.

Steven, I 'd recommend The Smaller Advent speakers then (not Baby's). They can take a WOPL beating pretty well and have a smaller footprint, easily handle your power range

I had those in my younger daze...the point though is to use what I was GIVEN for free and make a good speaker of it.

The XP-10 was a very good (if not phenomenal) speaker with lots of acclaim as one of Fisher's better speakers from the era before the sale to Sanyo (1965 model).

I don't WANT a WOPL-ready speaker of this pair. I want a good 50-75 watt speaker system that delivers quality volume audio throughout the house. I'm not going to use 350 watts by any means, even if I would indeed welcome the Larrt WOPL in my house. The neighbors would really get pissed, my 5050 is loud enough to be heard across the lot and my WASHING MACHINE can even be heard clearly when out of balance in spin across the entire 5-house lot.

But I WOULD like to enjoy what a 15" woofer can deliver...while it's true that 10 and 12" speaker systems are a recognized standard, this might work well and it's a lot more affordable than Altecs and JBLs.

There IS a pair of JBL D130s on eBay now but not in my universe for price.

The pair on eBay appear damaged. Look at the driver on the left, and it looks like it has separated on the bottom left, near the cloth surround. Looks scary to me, unless you could get some more pictures, and assurances from the seller that they are not torn, or shoddily repaired..

Look on Parts Express and see what they have..

I agree with Sutton. that one is wounded pretty bad. Not that great of a 15'' driver to begin with.
Check these out Steven, maybe you can get a pair of these cheap enough. He has a few listed. (ebay)

Wouldn't cab volume and other factors be an issue? You can't just slap any woofer in and expect it to work. It took me quite awhile to find woofers that would work in my garage Bose 501's. Either not enough bass or too much. Finally found RS speakers that were a close match but allowed as a benefit way more power handling capability. I suppose if you are a X-over wizard, you can make anything work though

Your correct Ron. Without knowing the Theil /Small Parameters of a driver your just filling a cabinet hole.
I just was saw these and thought they might be better then what Steven was looking at. But not a good way
to build a speaker, but I thought they a least fit his price range?

A URL would help... I don't know how much they want and the other point is that I like at the beginning of the month *when the money is here, I have never and will never use Paypal and therefore it has to be something affordable.

There are those Magnavox woofers that come up now and then, or were they 12s?

I don't even have grilles and plan to use some utility covers.

Remember, these are ugly cabs, and I'm NOT a user of Thiel-Small anyway. I build speakers by ear and instinct. And the aforementioned Advent Babys, especially Baby II as built by Jensen/Recoton, are horrible speakers that can't even handle 25 watts well, not even the Star Wars soundtrack, without clipping an amp at some point, they aren't going to handle the power you want. POP POP POP!

I guess that maybe eBay was trying to tell me something too as I seem to remember the other items section had SURROUND KITS.

I would try to maybe find a pair of Eminence drivers. They actually make the woofers for Crites, and have T/S parameters which we could work with. I wonder if Bob might have some of the 1524 drivers, which might have been returned for some reason? I think you might be able to use some of the drivers made for mobile audio. I have bought one or two very inexpensive drivers from Parts Express that have worked very well, and had a warranty. They occasionally have a buyout from Bravox or some other company as well. You will find something if you keep looking. I'll keep my eyes open as well. What size enclosure are you working with? Are you going ported or sealed?

The link to the original thread in the FS section is mentioned earlier and should have most of that information.

I found them...Pioneers too, if not exactly the OEMs...the impedance is correct at 8 ohms.

The shipping is a bit far out though and I don't need them yesterday anyway. Now how to get them.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Pioneer-1...orking-Pair-CS-G403-Home-Stereo-/261744769404

And to answer an earlier question, they are ported, I think two in the front but I'd have to go look at a quarter to 4 am...have to replace missing port tubes as well.

In case you are wondering, I will do something to clean up and repair the torn up black covering on the cabs but I'm not going to try and find the original grilles, opting for round covers and those aren't expensive.

But $94 plus for expedited shipping-NO. Low and slow is just over $41, I see now.

My neighbor gave me the cabs as is, and figured I could probably do something with them. I figured I could and could use them a good while or sell them to a friend/gift them. I could use them out of the one shed I have soon though.

I looked at that one woofer and wanted to know if that was glue on the surround of that one...turns out the seller doesn't take questions...I don't even MESS with those guys. :angryfire:
