Does anyone know much about selenium rectifiers?

Last fall, I mentioned in a different thread about having an RCA 9Y5. I've replaced quite few components inside but in the process, I suspect the selenium rectifier has failed - as in dropping voltage. The dial lamp now dims almost immediately after turning the power on. It used to remain at a constant brightness.

I have an assortment of diodes on hand but am unsure what amperage the diode should be. I think I'd be OK with an IN4005 - 600V 1A.

The RCA is an oldie from 1949. Researching selenium rectifiers makes me think an IN4005 - 600V 1A would be OK. But I am not 100% certain about the amperage

FWIW, this is the info stamped on the selenium rectifier that I think is toast.

You will likely be fine with a 1N4005 replacement for this old selenium rectifier.

You might also need a low value high wattage resistor in series with the new silicon diode(s) to bring the B+ back down if it's too high. Silicon diodes have less forward voltage drop than seleniums. When I find seleniums in my old TVs/Radios I just get rid of em right away. I don't want to even know what they smell like when they let go......
