Thinking about picking up a minidisc recorder for the system- any particular ones to look for/ avoid?

Lower end Sony models have the eject issue. Jbeckva could enlighten you a little more on that topic. In the fall I picked up a Pioneer MD-J707 deck, while its a little older and only records in SP/LP, suits me fine. The Sony models that have the keyboard input on the front looks to be a nice deck. Some models like that seem harder to find depending where you live.

Yep, those Sony's have a big issue with their transport and how a certain microswitch related to the slide fails - causing it to continually try ejecting or not at all if a disc is inserted.

There is a fix "out there", and while I did do what the steps said to mine a year or so ago, it wasn't too long before it started to act up again. I figured I would take a 2nd look at it this weekend, and while at it (I'm "dangerous" now with more tools available lol) do a good thread on documenting the progress. Should be something starting Friday night, probably...

There is a good thread to follow over @ TH : http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?t=7049 Are you researching your options for a dependable and full-featured model, then go hunting for one? I have a Sony MXD-D5C and a Pioneer Elite MJ-17D, which is the same as the Pioneer MD-J707. The Sony has been my main MD deck for about two years, now. Try to find a MD deck which can be connected to a keyboard for all your titling chores. A remote control with the deck is a bonus, too.

Nando.

I guess you could consider my MiniDisc recorders a music server. But, I do intend to use my older Sony Vaio for just that purpose hooked up to my stereo system. It's just ust one of my future upgrades to my system that I am considering.
