Does anyone feel like recommending a replacement OPAMP for the venerable Texas Instruments TL072P? I'm thinking OP 275 or OPA 2604, maybe a LM6172.

Thoughts?

My Xonar had 3 of them in sockets for easy swaps in and out. Two are for I/V conversion, the last being a buffer amp. The original buffer was stock with a LM4562, the two I/V's were JRC2114's. I can't find anything on the JRC2114's (anyone?). But swapping all three out with the LME's was definitely worth it.

Although I wonder... this here might be a good example of questionable diminishing returns...

Defeats the whole RFI shielding and all that.. But hey, more power to 'im!

I'm back, never far from my computer. I'm not sure about those discrete board subs for opamps, but I will look at the LME49860. Mouser has 433 of them for $3.50 Each. Same pin outs?

Thanks!

Yeah, those discrete boards were way overkill IMHO - looks like "malignant growths" on the side of the soundcard to me heheh.

Yep, same pinouts as for most 8 pin dual ic's.

Sweet, thanks. I also looked at the LM4562NA from Mouser (same page) they have nearly the same specs for $3.05. Any thoughts on that one?
Here is the link:

It is so hard to tell if one is better than the other. Maybe buy a handful of each and try them all? I will just rely on you guys to help me pick some.

Thanks,
Mark

I've put the LM4562's in a few things like preamps, etc. I'd say that I've found my new favorite in the LME49860's but the LM4562's are a close second. Both are very detailed, but if I were to draw a difference between the two I would say the 49860 is less "harsh" - still definitely "there", but not quite in your face/ears.

Get 'em both. Or get the 4562's and PM me ... I have 2 of the 49860's left over I can send your way, not a problem at all!

Jer,
If you say they're good, that's enough for me. I sorta subscribe to the old saying that you get what you pay for (sometimes). The 49860 is slightly more $, must be that way for a reason.

I missed that you replaced your 4562's for the 49860's in the earlier post.
I'm ordering 10 of them.

Thanks,
Mark
