RCA Clear tops

Just picked up a quad set of matched 12AU7s. For a very good price.

The RCA clear tops are a very good tube. I really like the old Mullard better, but they are nice...

What do you have in yours? I have only used Mullards as power tubes. I couldn't pass up this deal. These are used; but not being power tubes they will last a long time.

I am using some different tubes...I switch back and forth...but for 12AU7's I'm using Mullards. 12AX7's I'm using Telefunkens, and for the Phono section I'm using some Russian tubes...can't remember the designation right now...but they are EXPENSIVE....also using 6DJ7's and they are NOS JAN Sylvania....a very nice tube...
I love to roll tubes...one of the main reasons to own a tube amp or pre...tube rolling.. Blindfolded, I don't know if I could HEAR the difference in Chinese and high dollar NOS Vintage though..gets back to the psychacousic theory I have...I think a lot of something "sounding better" has do so with your expectations...or the recommendations of others...

I'm pretty lucky I do research before I change tubes. To my ears I only messed up one. I bought an Electro- Hamonix and didn't like it at all. And yes I know I can't spell worth a crap. I don't do much rolling of tubes. I can't afford it.

I believe it is less of a factor than is generally thought. The more detailed your system gets the easier it is to pinpoint changes, plus i have a wife I call "Goldear" And she's not in the habit of fooling herself
