Hey, just thought I'd pass along the listing for a pair of rare Quicksilver Philips 8417 Monoblocks I just placed on eBay. They are serial numbers 047 and 048. Great tube amps, at what I think is an honest price. I just have way too much stuff, and I'm trying to thin the herd and make room for the Phas Linear 700B's and 40 Series 1's that Lee is recreating for me.

You don't see very many of these and they are in nice unmolested condition. I've had them for aobut 6 or 7 years, and just didn't use them very much at all. I have a pair of Bogen MO-100's which I think was the inspiration for this Quicksilver design...

Anyway....FYI

Yes they are the same. I used the term Philips because that is the way they ae denoted on the Quicksilver site. There was a differentation made between the Mono amps; one was made for the use of Philips produced tubes and the other for RCA tubes. As I understand, the Philips 8417 was a tube which was different than the RCA produced tube. The RCA will not work in the Philips Mono, while the RCA Mono amp will function with either the Philips or the RCA made tube. I THINK the Philips was the better tube, having tighter tolerences, and the RCA was not produced with the same tolerence as the Philips. I am not an expert, but this is my sense of what the difference is, and why the designation was made. Any other thoughts?

Nakdoc,

I took your advice and changed the title of the eBay listing to "Mono", but did leave the Philips designation in the heading, as there were teo different Mono amps produced by Quicksilver. Thanks for your input. Do you think I have them priced too high, with a $1500 reserve?
